Overview

Kotosankaku is a large onsen ryokan in Kotohira Onsen, a short walk from the approach to Kotohira-gu Shrine. You can stay here as a practical base for visiting the shrine, walking around the local shops, and relaxing in the hot spring baths after sightseeing.

The atmosphere is comfortable and traditional, without feeling overly formal. You will find spacious public areas, Japanese-style details, and a setting that works well for both short stays and slower onsen trips.

The ryokan has two main wings: Sansui-kan, with views that include Mt. Zozu, and Hiten-kan, designed for a more open, elevated stay. From here, you can visit Konpira-san, return for a long bath, and spend the evening with kaiseki cuisine made with Setouchi and Sanuki ingredients.

Accommodation

Kotosankaku offers a wide range of rooms across Sansui-kan and Hiten-kan, so you can choose a stay that feels more traditional, more spacious, or more private. You can stay in a Japanese-style room with tatami flooring and futon bedding, a Western-style twin room with beds, or a Japanese-Western room that gives you both tatami space and a sleeping area with beds.

If you want a more private stay, choose one of the rooms with an open-air bath. These rooms give you your own bathing space, so you can soak without using the large public baths. You can enjoy the fresh air, take your time, and bathe whenever you like. The room baths are private and relaxing, but they are not hot spring baths.

Some Sansui-kan rooms with open-air baths look toward Mt. Zozu, giving you a calm view of the mountain area around Kotohira. In Hiten-kan, some rooms face the Konpira-san side, making them a good choice if you want a stronger sense of place during your stay.

The private open-air baths in the rooms at Kotosankaku do not use onsen water.

The rooms are simple and comfortable rather than flashy. You can expect Japanese touches such as tatami flooring, low seating, and a quiet layout that works well after a day of walking around Kotohira-gu Shrine. The overall feeling is practical, relaxed, and suited to an onsen trip where you want space to rest between meals, baths, and sightseeing.

Dining

Your meals at Kotosankaku highlight the seasonal flavors of Kagawa and the Setouchi region. At dinner, you enjoy dishes crafted with local vegetables, seafood, and carefully prepared broths. The chefs arrange each plate with attention to detail, giving you colorful and balanced courses that reflect the time of year.

You may enjoy sashimi, grilled fish, simmered dishes, small appetizers, and warm soups that help you unwind after a day of sightseeing. You move through your meal at a gentle pace, giving you time to taste and appreciate each flavor.

In the morning, you begin your day with breakfast featuring rice, miso soup, eggs, grilled fish, and light sides that support your energy for exploring the shrine or relaxing in the baths. The calm dining environment helps you ease into your morning naturally.

Onsen and Wellness

You can enjoy hot spring bathing in both Sansui-kan and Hiten-kan. Sansui-kan has Kompira no Yu and Kabuki no Yu, with large public baths, a sauna, and a garden open-air bath. The bathing area sits close to Konpira-san, so your bath feels connected to the town’s famous pilgrimage setting.

If you stay in Hiten-kan, you can use Yakumo no Yu, an observatory open-air bath on the 10th floor. From this elevated bath, you can look out over Shikoku scenery with Konpira-san below, making it a strong choice if you want a more scenic bathing experience.

Guests with Tattoos

If you have tattoos, you cannot use the large public baths. This includes tattoos, tattoo stickers, any size, and any location on the body.

Rooms with private open-air baths offer a private bathing space, but the room bath is not a hot spring bath.
