Overview

Minakami Hotel Juraku sits beside the clear waters of the Tone River in Gunma Prefecture. This riverside hotel blends the rugged beauty of the mountains with the peaceful rhythm of the flowing river just outside your window. From your room, you can watch the seasons change across the slopes of Tanigawa-dake. Whether you’re here to relax in the onsen, enjoy a leisurely stay with early check-in, or explore nearby attractions, this is a place where you can slow down and breathe deeply. You’ll find both comfort and ease with wide views, generous meals, and thoughtful service.

Accommodation

You can choose from a wide range of rooms, many newly renovated to showcase the beauty of Minakami’s natural surroundings. Each room offers its own view — some face the river, others look out toward the town and mountains. All are smoke-free and include free Wi-Fi.

The Mizunone rooms line the Tone River. You can hear the water from your terrace and watch the sun set behind the trees. These rooms include:

  • Corner Suites (80㎡) with both tatami and twin-bed areas — perfect for a spacious and scenic stay.
  • River View Twin Rooms (29–48㎡) — many include terraces where you can relax with a cup of tea while listening to the water.
  • Japanese-Western Rooms (10–12 tatami mats + twin beds) — large enough for families or groups, with futons prepared for parties over three.

If you prefer a mountain-facing room or a quieter stay in the back, there are also Japanese-Western and traditional Japanese rooms on the town side, offering views of the mountain ridgelines and the quiet onsen streets.

Dining

You can enjoy an all-you-can-eat buffet at the hotel’s dining space KAWATONE. Meals are freshly prepared right in front of you, and the scents and sounds from the open kitchen add to the experience.

For dinner, chefs slice roast beef to order, bake pizzas in a stone oven, fry seasonal tempura, and stir-fry wok-seared Chinese dishes. You can also finish your meal with handmade cold stone ice cream. The dining room also includes free-flow drinks — from local sake to wine, beer, and soft drinks.

Breakfast features handmade rice balls, thick omelets, and warm bread baked fresh every morning. Try the tamago-kake-gohan (rice with raw egg) made with local eggs and special soy sauce, or enjoy the hotel’s own signature toast from the in-house bakery.

Onsen and Wellness

Minakami Hotel Juraku draws over 180 tons of water every day from a source 500 meters away. The hot spring water is known for its gentle effects on the skin, thanks to its calcium and sodium sulfate content. You can enjoy it in three different baths:

  • Tengu-no-Yu (B1 floor): Features a cypress bath, bubble bath, waterfall stream, open-air bath, and dry sauna. Times alternate by gender.
  • Seseragi-no-Yu (1st floor): Offers a jet bath, open-air bath, and mist sauna. Also gender-switched throughout the day.
  • Suikei-no-Yu: Includes cypress baths, lukewarm soaks, and jacuzzi tubs.

You can use massage chairs for free, enjoy cold drinks after your soak, and choose from several types of shower heads in each bath.

Guests with Tattoos

If you have tattoos, you won’t be able to use the public baths. There are no private onsen baths available for reservation, so this may affect your ability to use the bathing facilities.

Facilities

Throughout your stay, you’ll find small touches that add comfort. Each bath has a shampoo and conditioner bar where you can choose the scent and texture you like best. There’s also a baby bath, baby chair, and shower chairs available for those who need extra support. The ryokan provides skincare items, hair dryers, and safety boxes in every dressing area.

All rooms have free Wi-Fi, and you can also use the lounge or dining areas to stay connected.

Activities

You can take a scenic ride on the Tanigawa-dake ropeway, walk through fields of lavender at Tambara Park in the summer, or visit Firefly Village at Tsukiyono during the early summer evenings. If you’re traveling with children, explore the Dinosaur and Insect Kingdom in the nearby Norn Minakami Flower Garden.

Inside the hotel, you can enjoy table tennis, boccia, or miniature billiards in the game corner. The hotel also offers seasonal experiences like morning yoga on the terrace or small fireworks giveaways in summer.
