Overview

Miyako Resort Okushima Aqua Forest is an onsen resort hotel in Okushima, set by Ago Bay in Ise-Shima. This is not a traditional ryokan, but it gives you many of the things you may look for in an onsen stay: natural hot spring bathing, Japanese dining, quiet nature, sea views, walking paths, and time away from the city. The property sits on about 120,000㎡ of grounds, with forest paths, rare tidal flats that appear at low tide, and a route that leads toward the beach.

You can stay in the hotel building or choose a cottage in the forest. During your stay, you can soak in Tomoyama-no-Yu, swim at Aqua Palace, book a treatment at Esthetic Salon Crinum, look up at the stars from the observatory, or simply slow down with views of the ria coastline and Ago Bay.

Accommodation

You can choose from hotel-building rooms, forest cottages, dog-friendly pet cottages, and barbecue cottages. The hotel building has eight room types, and the rooms are designed so you can enjoy the nature of Ise-Shima from large windows. The official room options cover couples, families, and small groups.

Regular Twin: A main standard Western-style room with 37㎡ of space. It has a simple twin layout and enough room to relax without feeling tight.

Regular Twin Garden View: A 37㎡ standard Western-style room with a garden-facing setting. It gives you a calm base for a slower stay close to the greenery.

Deluxe Twin: A higher-floor twin room with 47㎡ of space. From here, you can enjoy views of the ria coastline and settle into a room with more space than the standard twin.

Maisonette: A 58㎡ two-level room with the living area on the first floor and beds on the second floor. This room feels more like a small private home, with open space and views of Ago Bay.

Aqua Vista: A 66㎡ special room on the 7th floor, renewed with a glamping theme. It has four beds, a 4-meter-high ceiling, rattan lighting with LED filament bulbs, and a log-cabin-like feel. Large windows look toward the island-dotted scenery of Ago Bay.

Japanese-Western Room: A 66㎡ room with a living space and a 7.5-tatami Japanese room. It is the largest room type in the hotel and works well when you want both beds and tatami space. You can look out toward the garden and enjoy the sound of birds around the property.

Japanese Room: A 10-tatami Japanese-style room with a terrace. It gives you a classic tatami setting and garden views from the room.

Barrier-Free Twin Room: A 44㎡ twin room with wider indoor openings, designed to make movement easier for wheelchair users.

Forest Cottage: A 60㎡ stand-alone cottage set away from the hotel building. You have a living room, bedroom, kitchen, and a 6-tatami Japanese room on the mezzanine level. The cottage includes an IH kitchenette, and you can request a kitchen set when booking.

Pet Cottage: A dog-friendly forest cottage with dog-use items and an IH kitchenette. You can only book this cottage when staying with your dog.

Barbecue Cottage: A 60㎡ cottage where you can enjoy private barbecue time in Ise-Shima National Park. The hotel provides a Weber BBQ grill for this cottage type.

Dining

You dine at Hamanagi, the resort restaurant on the 3rd floor. Dinner lets you choose between a resort buffet and creative Japanese kaiseki, so you can keep the evening casual or make it more refined.

The dinner buffet has more than 40 Japanese, Western, and Chinese dishes. You can enjoy a sashimi corner, seasonal tempura, teppanyaki from the live kitchen, and local Ise-Shima tastes such as tekone sushi and Ise udon. The buffet is usually served from 17:30 to 20:30, with last entry at 19:30, though hours may change by season or day.

The creative kaiseki dinner focuses on seasonal ingredients and careful preparation. You need to reserve kaiseki at least three days in advance so the kitchen can prepare the ingredients properly.

Breakfast is a buffet with Japanese and Western-style dishes. The menu can include freshly made pancakes, aosa-flavored rolled omelet, broiled Mie Prefecture dried fish, and Japanese side dishes.

Onsen and Wellness

Tomoyama-no-Yu is the hotel’s natural hot spring. You can soak while looking out toward Ago Bay, making it one of the most relaxing parts of the stay. The spring source is Tomoyama Onsen, and the water is a heated, circulating, filtered sodium-calcium chloride spring.

The bath area includes an indoor hot spring bath with a jet bath, plus a sauna available from 11:00 to 23:00. The bathing area also uses ReFa Fine Bubble Pure shower heads in all wash stations.

Aqua Palace is the water area centered on a 25-meter indoor pool. You can also use water features such as Aqua Floating, Rainbow, laid-back pool, whirlpool jet bath, high-power water jets, and 2Way Station.

Esthetic Salon Crinum sits inside Aqua Palace and offers face and body treatments. Treatments use 100% natural “Odai” essential oil products from the Miyagawa forest area.

Guests with Tattoos

If you have tattoos, including tattoo-style body art, you cannot use Tomoyama-no-Yu.

Walking Paths: The grounds cover about 120,000㎡, with maintained walking paths, tidal flats that appear at low tide, and a route toward the beach. You can also walk with your dog on the paths.

Bicycle Rentals: You can rent a bicycle when you want to explore more of Ise-Shima without using a car.

Karaoke Rooms: You can book karaoke time after dinner or for a group stay. Opening hours are listed as 11:00 to 23:00.

Welcome Drink Corner: You can use the free coffee machine and soft drink server beside the 4th-floor escalator rest area 24 hours a day.

Activities

You can start the day with a walk through the hotel grounds, follow the paths toward the tidal flats, head toward the beach, or rent a bicycle to see more of the surrounding area. In the evening, you can visit the Astronomy Hall and look at the night sky through the 50cm telescope. During warmer months, you can add indoor pool time or seasonal outdoor pool time at Aqua Palace.
