Overview
Mizunosato 〇久 Ryokan brings you to the quieter side of Shuzenji Onsen, close to the Katsura River and within easy walking distance of the town’s classic sights. The ryokan has welcomed travelers for over 100 years, and its style reflects the warmth of an established hot spring inn: polished stone floors, a garden-view lounge, private dining rooms, restful baths, and rooms designed for comfort after a day in Izu.
This is a good choice when you want Shuzenji’s old-town atmosphere without staying in the busiest part of the hot spring area. The Bamboo Grove Path, Shuzenji Temple, Tokko-no-yu, and riverside walking spots are all close enough for an easy stroll. After exploring, you return to a ryokan where the focus stays clear: hot spring bathing, Izu kaiseki, quiet rooms, and thoughtful details that make the stay feel personal.
Accommodation
Mizunosato 〇久 Ryokan has 15 non-smoking rooms across six room types. You can choose from Japanese-style rooms, Japanese-Western rooms, and larger suites with open-air or semi-open-air hot spring baths. All rooms include Wi-Fi, a TV, telephone, kettle, tea set, refrigerator, individual air conditioning, washlet toilet, safe, hair dryer, towels, samue roomwear, slippers, shampoo, conditioner, body soap, toothbrush set, razor, and brush.
The 〇久 Premium Suite is the most spacious option, created as a private top-floor suite. It includes two double-bed rooms, a 10-tatami Japanese room, a massage chair, a deck terrace, shower booth, two hot spring open-air baths, and a reclining bath. This room gives you a full-floor stay with strong privacy and a generous layout for a special trip.
The 〇久 Suite with Open-Air Bath and Shower Booth gives you a twin bedroom, 10-tatami Japanese room, wide veranda, massage chair, shower booth, and open-air hot spring bath facing the scenery. The 〇久 Suite with Open-Air Bath and Dining gives you a larger layout with a private dining space, making it a strong option when you want more time in your room and a dedicated place for meals. The dining area can also work well when you need a quiet space for work during the stay.
The 〇久 Suite with Open-Air Bath and Barrier-Free design gives you a Japanese-Western layout with twin beds, a semi-open-air bath, and easier movement through the room. This room works well if you use a wheelchair, walk with care, or want a room with fewer steps. The Japanese-Western room also gives you a twin bedroom and a 6-tatami Japanese room, with an open layout that allows wheelchair access into the Western-style sleeping area. The 12-tatami Japanese-style room offers the most classic ryokan setting, with tatami flooring, a wide window, a bright southern exposure, and a simple, traditional feel.
Bedding also receives careful attention. Rooms with beds use Simmons mattresses, while Japanese-style bedding may include Breathair or Nishikawa AIR Series mattresses, chosen for support, breathability, and ease of rest after bathing.
Dining
Dining at Mizunosato 〇久 Ryokan highlights Izu’s sea, mountains, and local flavors through monthly kaiseki-style meals. Dinner is served course by course, so you can enjoy each dish freshly prepared rather than all at once. The cooking brings together seafood, mountain ingredients, seasonal produce, and regional touches from Shuzenji and Suruga Bay.
Toda salt, made by boiling deep seawater from Suruga Bay over firewood, adds a clear mineral taste to the meal. Fresh wasabi is served with two types of graters, so you can prepare it at the table and enjoy it with sashimi, meat, steamed dishes, and wasabi rice. Local ingredients such as black rice may also appear in the seasonal meal, giving the dinner a stronger sense of place.
Dinner is served in private-style dining rooms, with standard dinner times in the early evening. Room dining is available only with dedicated room-dining plans, so you should choose that plan when you want dinner served in your room. Breakfast is served in a private dining room and follows a Japanese style, with grilled dried fish, salad with wasabi dressing, and hot miso soup finished at the table. A later brunch-style breakfast option is also available when you want a slower morning.
Onsen and Wellness
Mizunosato 〇久 Ryokan uses the hot spring water of Shuzenji Onsen, connected to the legend of Kobo Daishi. The story tells of Kobo Daishi seeing a son washing his sick father with cold river water, then striking the river rock with his tokko ritual tool to bring forth hot spring water. The spring water here is colorless and clear, with a gentle feel that suits repeated bathing.
The spring quality is alkaline simple spring water. It is associated with support for joint pain, nerve pain, and chronic digestive concerns. Shuzenji Onsen is also known for its soft, smooth feel on the skin, making the bath easy to enjoy even if you prefer a mild hot spring.
The 1st-floor public bath, Kobo no Yu, reopened after renewal in August 2024. Both the men’s and women’s large baths now include a Finnish-style löyly sauna, a cold bath, and relaxation chairs. In spring, you can bathe with views of the garden cherry blossoms. The large public bath is open from 15:00 until 10:00 the next morning, while sauna use may be limited at night for safety.
Reserved private baths add more choice to the onsen stay. Ibuki, newly added in August 2024, is a swim-friendly bath designed with movement in mind and kept at a milder temperature. Satori, also newly added in August 2024, is a quiet reclining bath with a cave-like atmosphere, soft lighting, firelight, and healing music. Oshidori is a barrier-free reserved bath with a garden view and a sloped entrance, though it is currently unavailable due to piping and equipment issues. Reserved private baths are used in 50-minute sessions and can be booked on the day, subject to availability.
Guests with Tattoos
Mizunosato 〇久 Ryokan has shared public hot spring baths, so tattoos should not be displayed in the large public bath areas. You can use the reserved private baths instead. Rooms with private open-air or semi-open-air hot spring baths are also a good choice when you want to enjoy the onsen with more privacy.
Facilities
Mizunosato 〇久 Ryokan includes a stone-floored entrance, a lobby with a koi courtyard view, the garden-view lounge Ginga for check-in, a footbath terrace, private dining rooms at En, a shop, public hot spring baths, reserved private baths, Wi-Fi throughout the building, and barrier-free features in key shared areas.
The footbath terrace works as an outdoor lounge where you can warm your feet, sit under the open sky, read, talk, or enjoy the firepit in the evening. En, the dining venue renewed in 2023, has private dining rooms with table seating and can also prepare group dining spaces. The shop carries local sweets, regional products used in the cuisine, and handmade crafts by local makers.
The ryokan also supports easier movement through parts of the building. The shared first-floor spaces from the entrance to the lounge use smooth flooring, slip-resistant materials, and a more open layout. Wheelchairs are available to borrow, and the property includes barrier-free room options, an elevator, wheelchair-friendly parking, ramps, a multipurpose toilet, bath handrails, and accessible bath features.
Activities
Mizunosato 〇久 Ryokan places you close to Shuzenji’s most loved walking route. The Bamboo Grove Path begins near the western side of the ryokan area, and you can reach it in only a few minutes on foot. From there, you can continue toward Katsura Bridge, Tokko-no-yu, and Shuzenji Temple without needing to cross the busier main road.
During the day, you can visit Shuzenji Temple, take photos near Tokko-no-yu, walk along the Katsura River, or stop for local soba around the onsen town. In the evening, the Bamboo Grove Path and nearby riverside areas are beautiful for a quiet walk when the lights come on. For a longer outing, Shuzenji Niji-no-Sato gives you gardens, cultural areas, craft spaces, and views toward Mount Fuji on clear days.
Inside the ryokan, you can spend time in the footbath terrace, book a private bath, or arrange an in-room treatment. Body care, facial treatments, Thai-style massage, foot care, and head massage are available by advance reservation, with treatments provided in your room.
