Overview

EN RESORT Re’Cove Hakone gives you a refreshing highland stay in Sengokuhara, around 650 metres above sea level. Surrounded by mountain air, pampas grass fields, wetlands, and art museums, the hotel places you close to some of Hakone’s best-known scenery while giving you plenty to enjoy indoors.

You come here to reconnect with people important to you. Share a colourful buffet, play a board game in the lounge, soak in cloudy hot spring water from Ōwakudani, or sit beside the fireplace with a cup of coffee. The atmosphere feels casual and comfortable, making the hotel a good choice for couples, families, and groups of friends.

The North and South Wings bring together spacious rooms, natural hot spring bathing, a buffet restaurant, entertainment, and relaxation services. Tokyo is around 90 minutes away by car under normal conditions, so you can enjoy a mountain and onsen break without travelling too far from the city.

Accommodation

You can choose from six room types across the South and North Wings. The rooms range from compact twin accommodation for two to large Japanese-Western spaces that give families and groups more room to relax. Wi-Fi is available in every room, and both smoking and non-smoking categories are offered, depending on the room type.

The 28-square-metre Standard Twin Room sits in the South Wing and includes two 120-centimetre-wide beds. Its simple layout works well when you plan to spend most of your stay exploring Hakone, enjoying the buffet, and bathing in the onsen.

The 32-square-metre Standard Room is one of the hotel’s most popular choices. It includes two beds, with an extra bed available when needed. The added floor space gives you a comfortable place to unwind after sightseeing without moving into a larger family room.

The South Wing Japanese Room gives you 56 square metres of tatami space. Only three rooms of this type are available, making them especially appealing when you travel with a baby or young child and prefer an open floor without high beds. Futons are prepared on the tatami for sleeping.

The 48-square-metre Deluxe Room in the North Wing includes two beds and sofa beds when extra sleeping space is needed. This room gives you more space to spread out and works well for a family or a small group.

The 60-square-metre Japanese Modern Room combines two Western-style beds with a six-tatami Japanese area. Futons can be placed on the tatami when required, so you can share one room while keeping separate areas for sleeping, sitting, and conversation. This is one of the strongest choices when you travel with family or friends.

The 97-square-metre North Wing Suite is the most spacious category. It includes two wide beds, sofa beds, a bathroom, a separate shower room, and a generous living area. One suite sits on each floor, giving you a quieter and more comfortable setting for a special trip or longer stay.

Your room includes a yukata, towels, toothbrush, cotton pads, cotton swabs, razor, hairbrush, shampoo, conditioner, body soap, deodorising spray, tea set, kettle, and safe. Air purifiers and humidifiers can be borrowed while supplies last.

Dining

Dinner is served as a two-hour buffet in the South Wing restaurant. The live kitchen brings energy to the meal, with chefs preparing hot food while you watch. Regular favourites include pork churrasco, sirloin steak, seasonal vegetable tempura, and the hotel’s well-known whole fried asparagus spears.

The wider buffet may include seafood rice bowls, pasta, curry, pastry-covered soup, salads, Japanese dishes, and desserts. The selection changes with the season and daily ingredient supply, so each stay can bring something different. Seasonal food fairs also introduce limited-time themes and dishes throughout the year.

Dinner runs from 5:30 PM to 9:30 PM, with final orders at 9:00 PM. You can wear your yukata in the restaurant, allowing you to move easily from the bath to dinner without changing into outdoor clothes.

You can also add a more indulgent dish to your meal when available. Limited daily options include A5-grade Japanese black wagyu steak and live abalone grilled at your table. These dishes are offered for an added charge and may sell out.

Breakfast is served from 7:00 AM to 10:00 AM, with final entry at 9:30 AM. Local ingredients include Gotemba-grown Koshihikari rice, vegetables from the western foothills of Mount Fuji, and Hakone sasa tofu.

At the live kitchen, you can order an omelette with fillings such as spinach, bacon, tomato, or cheese. Freshly baked bread, nostalgic fried bread, and handmade rice balls using Gotemba Koshihikari add warmth to the morning buffet. You can eat lightly before sightseeing or build a larger breakfast before a full day around Hakone.

Onsen and Wellness

The North Wing bathing area brings natural hot spring water from Ōwakudani into the open-air and cypress baths. The cloudy water gives Re’Cove Hakone’s onsen its distinctive character, allowing you to enjoy one of Hakone’s volcanic springs without leaving the hotel.

The cypress bath uses 100% source-flowing water. The spring is classified as a sulphate and chloride spring containing calcium and magnesium. Traditional bathing indications include relief from muscle and joint discomfort, neuralgia, bruises, sensitivity to cold, tiredness, and recovery after illness. You should enjoy these as traditional onsen indications rather than medical treatment.

The open-air bath lets you feel the cool Sengokuhara air while soaking in the warm, cloudy spring water. The cypress bath adds the natural scent and texture of wood, creating a more sheltered way to enjoy the same Ōwakudani source.

The large indoor bath includes reclining sections and jacuzzi jets. This bath uses heated regular water rather than natural hot spring water, making it a gentler alternative when you find mineral-rich onsen water too strong.

You can also use the sauna and cold-water bath. The cold bath is maintained between approximately 15°C and 19°C, allowing you to cool down after the sauna before resting or returning to the warm baths.

Bathing hours run from 5:30 AM to 10:00 AM and from 3:00 PM to midnight. The bath area closes between sessions for cleaning. Baby baths are available because children who still wear diapers cannot enter the main tubs.

Guests with Tattoos

If you have tattoos, body art, or tattoo-style stickers, you cannot use the shared hot spring baths, indoor baths, sauna, or cold-water bath. The hotel does not have a reservable private onsen or an in-room hot spring bath, so there is no private bathing alternative for enjoying the Ōwakudani spring water.

Facilities

The EN Lounge in the South Wing gives you space to read, talk, or spend time together. You can choose from books, picture books, board games, and table football. The lounge opens from 7:00 AM to 10:00 PM, making it easy to stop by between meals and baths.

Daily welcome sweets are served in the lounge from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM. The selection changes, giving you a small treat soon after arrival. A separate coffee service beside the fireplace is available 24 hours a day, so you can enjoy a warm drink early in the morning or after returning from the onsen.

Table tennis is available in the South Wing for 50-minute sessions at an added charge. Private karaoke rooms open from 2:00 PM until midnight and can be booked through reception. These spaces give you easy entertainment when the weather keeps you indoors or when you want to continue the evening after dinner.

The hotel shop opens from 7:00 AM to 10:00 PM and carries Hakone souvenirs and regional products. An occasional morning market offers items such as Gotemba Koshihikari rice and dried fish from the Atami coast.

The North Wing includes hand massage and beauty treatments, with same-day reservations accepted when sessions are available. A coin laundry, vending machines, ice machines, and water servers in the public bath changing rooms make longer stays easier.

Free parking is available on a first-come basis. If the main area becomes full, you may be directed to a second parking lot. A convenience store is also around two minutes away on foot.

Activities

You can create an easy on-site routine without filling every hour. Arrive for welcome sweets, relax with coffee in the lounge, play a board game or table tennis, soak in the cloudy hot spring, enjoy the buffet, and finish the evening with karaoke, a massage, or another bath.

Sengokuhara gives you some of Hakone’s most recognisable natural scenery. The pampas grass field turns golden in autumn, while Hakone Botanical Garden of Wetlands introduces you to plants from marshes and mountain environments. Several art museums sit around the area, making it easy to combine nature and culture in one day.

Nearby bus stops connect you with Hakone-Yumoto, Odawara, Lake Ashi, Togendai, and Gotemba. The Sengokuro-mae stop for Hakone-Yumoto and Odawara is around two minutes away on foot, while the Daigatake stop for Togendai and Lake Ashi is around three minutes away.

Day-use hot spring bathing is also available on selected days from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM, with final entry at 6:00 PM. The service closes on irregular dates, so advance confirmation is required. You can also combine day-use bathing with the dinner buffet when space is available.
