Overview

Shirahama Ocean Resort gives you a bright seaside stay at the southern tip of Minamiboso, Chiba. The resort stands on the ocean side of the coastal road, so every room faces the Pacific Ocean with an open 180-degree view. You see the sea from your room, the restaurant, the garden, and the panoramic hot spring bath, making the ocean part of your stay from morning to night.

This is a good choice when you want an easy coastal escape with hot spring bathing, buffet dining, summer pool time, and dog-friendly rooms. You can drive from central Tokyo in about two hours, or use express buses from Tokyo, Chiba, and Yokohama. The resort also works well if you want to explore Nojimazaki Lighthouse, nearby beaches, and the quiet seaside roads of Minamiboso.

Accommodation

Every room at Shirahama Ocean Resort faces the sea, so you wake up to the Pacific rather than city views. You can choose Western-style rooms, Japanese-style Ryukyu tatami rooms, and dog-friendly rooms. The Deluxe Twin with panoramic bath gives you 35 square meters, two beds, extra bedding, and an ocean-view bath. The Triple Room Ocean View gives you 27 square meters with three beds and an extra bed, while the Triple Room with panoramic bath gives you 41 square meters and a bath facing the sea. The Family Room Ocean View offers 51 square meters with five beds and a bathtub, making it the most spacious standard room choice.

The Western Twin rooms place you close to the changing sea view, with two beds and an extra bed. The Ryukyu Tatami Japanese room gives you 27 square meters with soft tatami flooring, futons, and a window-side space where you can sit and enjoy the ocean and sky. Some Japanese-style room plans also include a panoramic bath option. Room equipment includes Wi-Fi, smartphone charger, refrigerator, TV, bath or shower depending on room type, washlet toilet, hair dryer, electric kettle, and air conditioning, with yukata, towels, shampoo, rinse, body shampoo, razor, and toothbrush prepared.

If you travel with your dog, you can book an ocean-view dog-friendly room. These rooms include Western rooms with an ocean terrace, Japanese rooms with an ocean terrace, and second-floor Ryukyu tatami Japanese rooms. Small dogs through extra-large dogs can stay, and dog-friendly rooms include useful items such as a circle, food bowls, cleaning tools, deodorizing spray, pet sheets, toilet tray, walking bags, and a dog blanket, depending on room type.

Dining

Meals are served in the ocean-view restaurant, where you dine close to the sound and light of the sea. Breakfast runs from 7:00 AM to 9:00 AM and brings you a Japanese-Western buffet with freshly cooked rice, fisherman-style hot pot, and daily ramen such as Ise-ebi broth ramen or special soy sauce ramen. On warm mornings, you may enjoy breakfast on the terrace while looking out over the water.

Dinner is a Japanese-Western buffet built around Minamiboso flavors. You can enjoy the resort’s popular hamayaki seafood grill, seasonal ingredients, seafood dishes, a “katte-don” corner where you build your own rice bowl, clam-broth shabu-shabu, and seasonal Boso kamameshi. The dinner buffet offers around 50 dishes, with food contents subject to season, weather, and sourcing. Dinner hours are usually 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on weekdays and 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM on Saturdays and days before holidays.

You can also upgrade your meal through selected plans. Some plans add a special dish such as spiny lobster, abalone, or snow crab to the buffet, giving you a more indulgent seafood dinner without losing the relaxed buffet style. If you want drinks with dinner, the restaurant offers an alcohol all-you-can-drink option for 70 minutes, along with beer, Chiba sake, wine, fruit liquor, cocktails, sours, and Minamiboso craft beer by separate order.

Onsen and Wellness

The panoramic large bath uses Minamiboso Onsen water brought to the hotel. The spring quality is listed as a sodium-chloride and bicarbonate spring, and the warm water helps your body heat up deeply after a day outdoors. The bath sits on the second floor, with separate bathing areas for men and women, and you can use it from 6:00 AM to 10:00 AM and from 3:00 PM to midnight. Day-use bathing is not offered, so this bath remains for overnight stays.

The bath area is designed around the sea view. You can soak in the morning light, watch the colors shift toward sunset, or relax at night as Nojimazaki Lighthouse shines across the dark water. Amenities are not placed in the changing room, so you take what you need from the front desk amenity corner. The women’s bath includes a shampoo bar, both large baths include baby chairs, and the women’s bath also has a baby bed.

For extra body care, Healing Salon Plumeria sits on the second floor. You can book aroma treatments or lymph body massage while looking toward the sea, with courses available for both men and women. This is a good option when you want more than a bath after a long drive, beach walk, or active day around Minamiboso.

Guests with Tattoos

If you have tattoos, including fashion tattoos, you can use the public bath only when they are fully covered with the tattoo cover seals sold at the hotel. This cover-seal system began on September 1, 2025. The same approach applies to the pool, where entry is allowed only when tattoos can be completely covered with the hotel’s cover seal.

Facilities

Shirahama Ocean Resort includes the ocean-view restaurant, panoramic large hot spring bath, Healing Salon Plumeria, seaside garden, summer outdoor pool, dog-friendly rooms, dog run, dog lounge, dog entrance, and summer dog pool. The main pool measures 25 meters by 10 meters and is about 1.0 to 1.3 meters deep, while the round children’s pool is about 8 meters across and around 50 centimeters deep. For 2026, the pool season is planned from July 1 to September 23, with hours from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, and you can use the pool before check-in and after check-out when you stay overnight.

You also have free Wi-Fi in all rooms, the front lobby, and banquet rooms, plus free parking for 55 cars. If the hotel parking area fills up, the nearby free municipal parking area may be used. A paid coin laundry sits on the first floor, and the resort’s dog-friendly setup includes an agility dog run, dog-friendly room supplies, a dedicated dog entrance, and a dog pool in summer. The dog run is about 22 meters by 16 meters, with an inner divided area of about 10 meters by 10 meters, and you can use it before check-in and after check-out.

Activities

You can keep your stay simple with ocean views, hot spring bathing, buffet meals, pool time, and slow walks in the seaside garden. Nojimazaki Lighthouse is about 5 to 10 minutes away on foot, and the walking path around the lighthouse gives you ocean scenery, rocky coastline, the southernmost point marker, and open views from the lighthouse stairs. The area is also good for sunrise walks, sunset photos, and night views when the lighthouse and stars stand out above the water.

The wider Minamiboso area gives you beaches, flower fields, seafood stops, and coastal drives. From the resort, you can visit Shirahama Castle Ruins Observatory, nearby beaches such as Nemoto Beach and Shioura Beach, Awa Shrine, Tateyama Castle and Shiroyama Park, Chikura Shiokaze Kingdom, and seasonal flower spots. In 2026, the 62nd Minamiboso Shirahama Ama Festival is scheduled for July 18 and 19 at Nojimazaki Lighthouse Park, about a 5-minute walk from the resort.
