Overview

Stay in a six-room ryokan in Hirayu Onsen, surrounded by the mountains of Chubu-Sangaku National Park. Yuka Sanzoan is the private annex of Hirayu no Mori and places you close to the transport links for Kamikochi, Shin-Hotaka, Norikura, and Takayama.

The small scale creates an intimate experience centred on private bathing and in-room dining. You can enjoy both breakfast and dinner without leaving your room, then soak in your own cypress bath when you choose one of the four rooms with a free-flowing natural onsen.

Rooms and bathing areas were refreshed at the end of 2025, while the traditional Japanese character of the building remains. You also receive complimentary access to Hirayu no Mori, around three minutes away on foot, when you would like to experience larger indoor and open-air baths.

Accommodation

Choose between two Japanese room layouts, both with adjoining tatami spaces. The smaller layout combines two six-tatami rooms, while the larger layout pairs a six-tatami room with an eight-tatami room. This separation gives you space to dine in one room and relax or sleep in the other.

You sleep on futon bedding laid over tatami flooring. Four of the six rooms include a private cypress bath supplied with free-flowing natural hot spring water. These baths also have their own washing areas, allowing you to enjoy the full bathing experience without leaving your room.

Your room includes a private bathing area, independent washbasin, Western-style toilet, heating and air conditioning, refrigerator, television, hairdryer, and free Wi-Fi. Yukata, samue loungewear, towels, toothbrushes, razors, shower caps, cotton buds, combs, brushes, and skincare products are also provided.

All rooms are non-smoking. A smoking space is available outside beside the entrance.

Dining

Enjoy both dinner and breakfast in your room, allowing you to dine privately without following the atmosphere of a large restaurant.

Dinner brings together regional dishes and seasonal ingredients from the Hida mountains. The meal includes Hida beef cooked on a ceramic plate, sashimi, soba noodles, and colourful dishes shaped by what is available during your stay. The table-top cooking lets you enjoy the Hida beef while it is hot and freshly prepared.

Breakfast offers the comforting flavours of a countryside hot spring inn. Homemade hoba miso is served on a magnolia leaf and accompanied by an onsen egg and Japanese breakfast dishes. The rich miso and warm rice give you a satisfying start before a day in the mountains.

Onsen and Wellness

Four rooms include private cypress baths filled with 100% natural water from Yunohira no Yu, a shared source with a long history in Hirayu Onsen. The water flows continuously into the tub rather than being circulated for reuse.

The spring is a weakly alkaline bicarbonate and chloride spring with a pH of approximately 7.8. Reddish-brown mineral deposits may appear in the water, reflecting its natural composition rather than a problem with cleanliness.

The source arrives at a high temperature. Mountain water is available beside the tub, allowing you to cool the bath until it feels comfortable. Once the temperature is right, you can soak whenever you please and return as often as you like during your stay.

There are no shared public baths inside Yuka Sanzoan. For a larger bathing experience, you receive complimentary access to nearby Hirayu no Mori, where numerous indoor and open-air baths spread through a forested setting.

Guests with Tattoos

You can use the private in-room hot spring bath if you have tattoos. The bath belongs exclusively to your room, and Yuka Sanzoan has no shared public bathing facilities of its own.

Reserve one of the four rooms specifically equipped with a free-flowing natural onsen when private hot spring bathing is essential to your stay.

Facilities

Yuka Sanzoan provides six Japanese rooms, private in-room dining, four rooms with free-flowing cypress onsen baths, free Wi-Fi in the rooms and shared spaces, complimentary parking, and an outdoor smoking area. You can select a colourful yukata, while samue loungewear, bathing products, skincare items, and toiletries are prepared in your room. Complimentary admission to Hirayu no Mori is also included, giving you access to a larger hot spring complex within a short walk.

Activities

Use the nearby Hirayu Bus Terminal to travel into Kamikochi during its open season. Once there, you can follow riverside paths beneath the Northern Alps, walk toward Kappa Bridge, or continue deeper into the mountain landscape.

The Shin-Hotaka Ropeway carries you high above Okuhida for broad views across the peaks. You can also follow seasonal bus routes toward Norikura, visit Hirayu Waterfall, or spend time exploring the footbaths and hot spring facilities around Hirayu.

Takayama’s old town makes an easy cultural outing. You can walk past wooden merchant houses, visit morning markets, browse traditional craft shops, and taste local food before returning to Hirayu for another private soak.

Additional Features

Check-in runs from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM, and check-out is by 10:00 AM. The ryokan is around one minute on foot from Hirayu Bus Terminal, so no shuttle service is provided.
