Overview

Zaborin is a peaceful hotel that represents Zen philosophy of being calm and away from everyday life. Zaborin is located in the heart of Hokkaido and each villa here was designed for you to be awed by the nature around while relaxing in all private open air onsen.

Accommodation

Each of the 15 villa suites at Zaborin features both indoor and open-air baths filled with volcanic hot spring water from the ryokan’s own source.

The villas preserved traditional Japanese aesthetic but were completed with a contemporary design. Zaborin was created by award-winning architect Makoto Nakayama and creative director Shoya Grigg.

When staying at Zaborin you can choose between Japanese-style ‘washitsu’ and Western-style ‘yoshitsu’ sleeping arrangements, with some villas offering additional tatami space suitable for families.

Dining

At Zaborin, dining is an art form with its signature “Kita kaiseki” cuisine, which offers a northern twist on traditional kaiseki meals.

The menu is designed by Yoshihiro Seno, a gifted chef who uses seasonal and local ingredients to capture the essence of Hokkaido’s abundant nature.

Onsen & Wellness

Zaborin is a luxury ryokan with each room featuring a private indoor and outdoor onsen. The water is hot spring water, rich in minerals and drawn from nearly a kilometer underground. Beyond the onsen experience, make sure to experience ‘forest bathing’ or ‘Shinrin-yoku,’ absorbing the healing energies of the surrounding forest while enjoying the luxurious onsen.

Facilities

Zaborin has a public spa area with separate facilities for men and women, a swimming pool with a warm water jacuzzi, and a bedrock bath that emits far-infrared rays for detoxification.

Activities

Zaborin is located in the heart of Hokkaido so activities here are all focused on the natural beauty and cultural richness of the local area. Skiing is available until May here, but if you don’t fancy hitting the slopes, you can go gentle vegetable picking or cycling. The town of Niko, just one-hour drive from Zaborin has many vineyards and orchards. Summers at Zaborin are for golfing and cycling. Autumns are all about the koyo viewing, while winters bring you here for the snow or the Candle lit path festival and the Sapporo snow festival.
