Overview
Yasashisa no Yado Matsusaki offers more than just a place to stay—it offers an experience rooted in tradition, warmth, and refined hospitality. Located in the peaceful hills of Ishikawa’s historic Tatsunokuchi Onsen, this ryokan has welcomed travelers for over 180 years. With seasonal cuisine, beautifully landscaped gardens, and onsen waters known since the Nara period, Matsusaki helps you slow down, reconnect, and feel cared for.
Accommodation
Matsusaki gives you a wide choice of traditional-style rooms across four buildings. Every room follows the sukiya architectural style and opens to a serene view of the changing seasons. Many rooms include both indoor and open-air onsen baths filled with natural hot spring water.
You can choose your room based on your needs:
- HĹŤĹŤ Building: All rooms include a private open-air and indoor onsen bath.
- Zuiun Wing (Main Building): Offers rooms with half open-air onsen baths and spacious layouts.
- Momoyama and ShĹŤjuan Wings: Feature open-air bath rooms and views of the classic Japanese garden.
- Accessible Options: Barrier-free rooms and bed-equipped rooms are available for seniors and guests with mobility needs.
Dining
Matsusaki prepares seasonal kaiseki meals using fresh ingredients from the Hokuriku region. Each dish is crafted to highlight the natural flavor of the ingredients. Your meals are made in kitchens located within each building and served in your room or a private dining space.
Dinner options include:

You’ll also find a wide range of optional dishes, including grilled turban shell, sashimi platters, abalone, seasonal tempura, and local sake.
Breakfast features freshly cooked rice from Tatsunokuchi and side dishes made with seasonal local ingredients. You can also request a Western-style breakfast if you prefer.
Onsen and Wellness
The onsen at Matsusaki flows directly from the natural spring, first opened 1,400 years ago. The water is gentle on your skin and keeps you warm long after your bath. You can relax in a range of bathing options:
- Three Scenic Rooftop Baths (HĹŤĹŤ Building): Enjoy views of the Hakusan mountain range and the garden. Separate facilities are available for men and women.
- Large Public Bath (Main Building): Includes a hot bath (40°C) and a cooler source bath (36.5°C) to enjoy contrast bathing, which improves circulation and eases fatigue.
- Private Open-Air Bath: Available for families, couples, or small groups. Reserve upon check-in.
Bath hours: 3:00 pm to midnight / 6:00 am to 10:00 am (large bath closes at 9:00 am)
Water type: Sulfur-containing sodium sulfate-chloride spring (mildly alkaline, low-tonicity)
Benefits: Relieves joint pain, muscle aches, poor circulation, women’s health issues, and general fatigue.
Guests with Tattoos
If you’ve had surgery such as a mastectomy, Matsusaki offers special coverage cloths for use in the women’s bath. For privacy or if you have visible tattoos, consider booking a private bath for a more comfortable experience.
