Overview
Kinugawa Grand Hotel Yumenotoki gives you a calm ryokan stay on a hillside in Kinugawa Onsen, about an 8-minute walk from Kinugawa Onsen Station. You arrive to a setting shaped by mountain views, a Japanese garden, seasonal kaiseki dining, and hot spring bathing. The rooms do not face the Kinugawa River, but you can enjoy views of the mountains, the onsen town, and the hotel’s garden from selected spaces.
The ryokan works well if you want an easy base for Nikko sightseeing while still having time to slow down with baths, meals, lounges, and garden views between outings. Nikko’s World Heritage shrines and temples are about 30 minutes away by car.
Accommodation
Your room at Kinugawa Grand Hotel Yumenotoki gives you space to unwind and enjoy the calm atmosphere of the valley. You can choose from Japanese-style rooms, Japanese-Western rooms, twin rooms, and suites across the Main Building, Seiryu, and Premium Seiryu areas. The Main Building includes spacious Japanese-style rooms, a luxury twin with a living area, upper-floor Japanese-Western rooms, a top-floor premium suite, and a large presidential suite with both Japanese-style and Western-style spaces.
For a more elevated stay, the Pure Wellness rooms on the 7th floor offer a high-quality air environment and balconies overlooking the mountains and Kinugawa Onsen town. The top-floor premium suite gives you wide views from above, while Seiryu rooms look toward the hotel’s garden rather than the Kinugawa River.
Your room includes yukata, a tea set, toiletries, and comfortable seating so you can settle in right away without thinking about anything extra.
Dining
Dinner focuses on seasonal ingredients, with many locally sourced items from Tochigi and carefully selected ingredients from across Japan. You enjoy kaiseki-style dining shaped around the season, with dishes prepared to bring color, aroma, texture, and balance to the table.
Dining spaces include Yamashina, where you can enjoy Kyoto-style kaiseki with garden views; Japanese Dining Wakana, focused on freshly prepared dishes; L’Amusant, a Western-style Japanese dining space; and Hall & Restaurant Fantasy for seasonal cuisine in a spacious setting.
You can also add seasonal special dishes such as grilled Tochigi beef on an earthenware plate, salt-grilled sweetfish, steamed matsutake mushroom in a teapot, and Nikko fresh yuba. Breakfast is a health-oriented Japanese set meal made with local ingredients.
Onsen and Wellness
The hot springs are one of the main pleasures of your stay. Kinugawa Onsen has been known since the Edo era, and the water here is a clear, colorless, mildly alkaline simple spring. It feels gentle on the skin and leaves you refreshed after bathing.
You can enjoy two large bath areas, Kinu-no-Toride and Kinu-no-Yume, along with open-air baths. Because the men’s and women’s bath areas alternate, you can experience nine baths in total during your stay. Kinu-no-Toride includes an open-air bath, open-air deep bath, indoor bath, lying-down Jacuzzi, mist sauna, and powder room. Kinu-no-Yume features a bright cream-marble bath area, an open-air rock bath, silk bath, sauna, powder room, and dressing room.
For more privacy, you can reserve one of five private open-air baths: Ryugu, Hagoromo, Ikkyu, Taketori, and Kozuchi. Each uses water directly from Kinugawa’s natural hot spring source and comes with its own atmosphere, from wooden and ceramic baths to rock and stone designs.
After bathing, you can rest in the post-bath area with cold water and barley tea. In the morning, shijimi clam miso soup is served from 6:30 a.m
Guests with Tattoos
