Overview
Mikiya Sansourai in Kaminoyama Onsen, Yamagata, welcomes you to a quiet countryside stay surrounded by rice fields and watched over by the Zao mountain range. Founded in 1931 as Mikiya, the inn has been renewed as a single-story retreat where you can feel close to nature, local food, sake, hot springs, and a Japanese garden visited by birds.
You can spend your time here as though returning to a second home for your soul, with rural scenery, seasonal garden views, and the gentle atmosphere of Yamagata all around you.
Accommodation
The inn has two separate single-story buildings, Kijine and Kiyose, both facing a Japanese garden that changes with the seasons. You can choose from rooms with open-air baths, Japanese-style bedrooms with private hot spring baths, and traditional Japanese rooms that carry the spirit of the original Mikiya.
Hana Suite is a 100m² Japanese-style suite for up to 6 people, available to only one group per day. It has two connected 12-tatami rooms and an open-air bath with free-flowing hot spring water.
Inaho Junior Suite is an 80m² special room for up to 6 people, also limited to one group per day. The spacious 24-tatami layout includes two adjoining rooms and a bed space. You can enjoy garden views from the window and soak in your open-air hot spring bath.
Ren is a 40m² Japanese-style bedroom for 2 people. It includes a cypress open-air hot spring bath and offers views of the seasonal garden, where pheasants may come to rest.
Satsuki is a 40m² Japanese-style bedroom for 2 people, with a bathroom and a spacious veranda overlooking the garden.
Kiyose rooms include Maple, Hydrangea, Cherry Blossom, and Peony. Each 30m² room accommodates 2 people and comes with a private hot spring bath, so you can enjoy Kaminoyama Onsen water in your own space.
Kijine rooms are Japanese-style bedrooms of 30m² or more, accommodating up to 5 people. These rooms blend traditional Japanese design with beds and garden views.

Onsen and Wellness
Mikiya Sansourai uses 100% natural free-flowing spring water from Kaminoyama Onsen. From the public bath and open-air bath, you can enjoy views of the Zao mountain range.
The hot spring is named Takamatsu no Yu, after the Takamatsu area of Kaminoyama Onsen where the inn has operated since the early Showa period. The water contains metasilicic acid, giving it a smooth, lotion-like feel that has earned it a reputation as a beauty bath.
The open-air bath offers a wide view of the Zao mountain range. Depending on the season, you can also enjoy the scent of nearby rice fields while you bathe.
The large public bath has a spacious stone bath with views of the mountains and a generous flow of high-quality spring water from the source.
The men’s and women’s baths have the same design, so you can enjoy the same bathing experience without timed switching.
A drinking spring is also available. Drinking the spring water may support a therapeutic bathing experience by acting on the stomach, intestines, liver, and other internal organs.
