Overview

Hotel Kazuno places you in Oyu Onsen, one of the oldest hot spring villages in Kazuno and a long-loved stop near the southern entrance to Lake Towada. The area has around 800 years of hot spring history, and during the Edo period it served as a therapeutic hot spring retreat for the Nambu domain. From here, you can explore northern Tohoku with easy access to Lake Towada, Oirase Valley, Hachimantai, and historic sites around Kazuno.

Inside the hotel, you find spacious public areas, seasonal views, large hot spring baths, and a quiet setting that suits slow travel. You can spend the day sightseeing, then return for a soak, a regional dinner, and a peaceful evening in Oyu Onsen.

Accommodation

Your room gives you space to relax, with views toward Oyu Onsen village and the surrounding mountains. The hotel offers several room types, from Japanese-style tatami rooms to Western-style rooms, suites, and larger rooms with hinoki cypress baths.

Japanese-Style Room
For a classic ryokan-style stay, choose a Japanese-style room with tatami flooring. These rooms come in 10-tatami and 12.5-tatami layouts, with about 40 to 45 square meters of space. You can sit low on the floor, enjoy tea, and settle into a simple Japanese atmosphere after your bath.

Japanese-Style Room with Twin Beds
This room gives you the feel of tatami with the ease of twin beds. With about 40 to 45 square meters of space, it works well when you want a Japanese room but prefer sleeping in a bed rather than on futons.

Special Japanese-Western Room
This spacious room combines a twin bedroom with a 12.5-tatami Japanese room across about 85 square meters. The bathroom has a hinoki cypress bath, so you can enjoy the warm scent of wood and a more private bathing experience in your own room.

Japanese VIP Room “Kazuno”
This large Japanese-style room measures about 130 square meters. You have a spacious Japanese room, a dining room, a 10-tatami gathering area, and a full hinoki-lined bath. It is the strongest choice when you want extra space and a more special ryokan-style stay.

Suite Rooms: Royal Suite and Imperial Suite
The Royal Suite and Imperial Suite each measure about 130 square meters. These suites give you a large, private setting with separate living and sleeping spaces, making them suitable for a special trip or a more comfortable longer stay.

Western-Style Rooms
You can also choose Western-style rooms, including single, double, twin, and superior rooms. These rooms range from about 16 to 24 square meters and give you a simple bed-based stay while still letting you enjoy the hotel’s hot springs and regional dining.

Dining

Dinner focuses on carefully selected ingredients served in their best condition. The main highlight is the Japanese kaiseki-style course featuring Kazuno’s famous kiritanpo nabe, a rice-stick hot pot closely tied to the local food culture. The rich soup is a key part of the experience, and the meal gives you a warm taste of Akita’s mountain region.

Breakfast is served buffet style with Japanese and Western dishes. The dining information page mentions around 30 breakfast items, while the facilities page describes the breakfast venue “Aogaki” as offering around 50 local, Japanese, and Western buffet dishes, so the exact number may vary by day or service style.

Onsen and Wellness

The baths use Oyu Onsen water, a sodium chloride spring. This hot spring type is listed for cuts, burns, chronic skin conditions, weak constitution in children, and chronic women’s conditions. You can bathe in a large indoor public bath, an open-air bath, and a sauna.

The open-air bath lets you enjoy the colors of the wooded hillside through the seasons. In the large indoor bath, you can stretch out in a wide bathing space while looking out at seasonal scenery. Bathing is available from early morning until midnight.

Guests with Tattoos

Because you can soak in a private onsen inside selected room types, you can enjoy the onsen regardless of tattoos.

The best room options for a private onsen-style bath are the Special Japanese-Western Room, which includes a hinoki cypress bath, and the Japanese VIP Room “Kazuno,” which includes a full cypress-lined bath.

For the public bath, if you have tattoos, check with the hotel directly before using the shared bathing areas.
