Overview

Look across Mikawa Bay from Hotel Meizanso, a hot spring ryokan in Miya Onsen within Mikawa Bay Quasi-National Park. The mild coastal climate, open sea views, natural hot springs, and seafood-rich cuisine give you an easy place to slow down in Gamagori.

Miya Onsen has a history of around 1,200 years and is traditionally connected with Kobo Daishi. At Hotel Meizanso, you can experience two natural spring types in the shared bathing areas: a smooth alkaline simple spring indoors and a weakly radioactive radon spring in the open-air baths.

Your stay can be shaped around the sea. Wake to the changing colours of the bay, enjoy seafood and local vegetables at dinner, explore the different baths, and relax with seven health teas after your soak. A complimentary shuttle from JR Mikawa-Miya Station makes the journey simple when arranged in advance.

Accommodation

Hotel Meizanso offers rooms with open-air baths, Japanese rooms with futon bedding, Japanese-style rooms with twin beds, and spacious suites. Many rooms overlook Mikawa Bay, although the view depends on the category. Some rooms in the Wa Resort Roman collection and selected Western rooms do not have a sea view.

Zen Terrace Uchuu is a collection of four Japanese rooms with private open-air baths. Ten no Umi and Hoshi no Hayashi combine a 12.5-tatami room with an additional ten-tatami room, giving you generous space for a family or time away with friends. Kumo no Nami and Tsuki no Fune each have a ten-tatami layout and place the outdoor bath close to the sea and sky. These rooms reopened after renovation in December 2024.

Ten no Umi opens towards a wide panorama of Mikawa Bay from its terrace and bath. Kumo no Nami uses the reflections of the water, sea, and sky as part of its design, while Tsuki no Fune has a boat-inspired outdoor tub. Hoshi no Hayashi combines its sea-facing terrace with a bamboo garden. The baths in these rooms do not use natural hot spring water.

Wa Resort Sokai offers View Comfort Twin rooms and a Front View Japanese Suite. The twin rooms measure 34.2 square metres and provide two beds in a sea-inspired Japanese setting. The 64.5-square-metre Front View Japanese Suite gives you more living space and a broad view across the bay.

Wa Resort Sofu also includes View Comfort Twin rooms and a 64.5-square-metre Universal View Suite. The Universal View Suite has a more accessible layout, twin beds, and daybeds when additional sleeping space is needed.

Wa Resort Roman combines Japanese design with raised beds. The 36.4-square-metre Hollywood Twin and Square Twin rooms have two beds and a calm tatami-based interior. Superior Twin, Corner Suite, and Premium Twin categories provide larger or upgraded layouts.

Traditional accommodation includes the 12.5-tatami Hoju-tei rooms, ten-tatami West Wing rooms with a window-side veranda, ten-tatami East Wing rooms, and a large two-room Japanese layout combining 10.5 and ten tatami mats. These rooms let you sit and sleep directly on the tatami, with futons prepared for the night.

Room equipment includes air conditioning, a television, telephone, refrigerator, electric kettle, tea set, hairdryer, and free Wi-Fi. Every accommodation room is non-smoking.

Dining

Dining introduces you to the produce of Gamagori and Aichi through fresh fish from Mikawa Bay, seasonal vegetables, Hatcho miso, and regional meat. The kitchen team is led by Executive Chef Hideki Inayoshi, who received Aichi Prefecture’s Aichi Master Craftsman recognition for his culinary skill.

At Shunsen Dining Otohime, you can enjoy dinner in a private dining room. You choose meat or fish for your main dish and a Japanese or Western dessert. Teppanyaki and grilled dishes are prepared in front of you, while the sea-facing private rooms look across Mikawa Bay.

Kaiseki dining brings fresh seafood and seasonal vegetables together in a traditional multi-course meal. The dishes change throughout the year, allowing the ingredients available at the time of your stay to shape the menu.

Restaurant Ryugu serves a dinner buffet with around 50 dishes. The open kitchen prepares grilled and fried food as you dine, so you can enjoy it while it is hot. The selection includes seasonal fish and vegetables, alongside Ieyasu Nabe, a local hot-pot dish made with Hatcho miso.

Additional regional dishes may include deep-fried mehikari, a small deep-sea fish known for its soft texture and rich flavour, or akaza prawns served as sashimi. You may also find grilled Mikawa Bay clams, seasonal simmered fish, Mikawa Beef, abalone, sashimi platters, and other seafood, depending on availability and advance arrangements.

Breakfast is served as a Japanese and Western buffet with around 40 dishes. You can begin the morning with rice, fish, vegetables, bread, and other warm and cold choices while looking towards Mikawa Bay from the dining room.

Food allergies and disliked ingredients should be shared before your stay. Buffet dishes have allergen information at the dining venue, while changes to private meals and kaiseki courses depend on the ingredients and preparation methods involved.

Onsen and Wellness

The shared bathing area, Kobo-no-Yu, uses two natural hot spring sources known as Bihaku-sen, or “beautifying springs.” The indoor baths contain alkaline simple spring water, while the open-air baths use a weakly radioactive radon spring.

The indoor alkaline spring has a smooth texture that feels gentle against the skin. It is traditionally associated with easing muscle and joint stiffness, sensitivity to cold, poor peripheral circulation, fatigue, and stress-related discomfort.

The open-air bath contains a weakly alkaline radon spring with a small amount of naturally occurring radon. You can soak outside while feeling the coastal air and enjoying a different water character from the main indoor bath.

The wider bathing area includes a carbonated bath, lukewarm bath, reclining bath, cold-water bath, and sauna. The carbonated bath surrounds your body with fine bubbles, while the reclining bath lets you rest against the water instead of sitting upright.

The men’s and women’s bathing areas change in the morning, allowing you to experience both sides during an overnight stay. The baths remain open until midnight and reopen early the following morning. The sauna closes earlier in the evening before reopening during the morning bathing period.

Showers, washing stations, drinking water, and tea in the post-bath lounge use nano-treated water. Bath amenities include shampoo, conditioner, body soap, hairdryers, combs, and personal-care items. The women’s side also provides cleansing products, lotion, and moisturiser.

After bathing, relax in the lounge lined with Mikawa cedar. Seven health teas are prepared with nano-treated water, including pearl barley, mulberry leaf, dokudami, sweet tea, bamboo leaf, buckwheat, and mugwort tea.

Hotel Meizanso also supports the Pink Ribbon movement. Approved bathing garments may be worn in the shared baths, and a suitable garment can be arranged in advance.

For additional care, Bi-zen offers facials, body treatments, and lymphatic massage. Shomon provides body and foot treatments in your room during the evening.

Guests with Tattoos

You cannot use the shared indoor baths, open-air baths, sauna, cold-water bath, or other communal bathing facilities if you have tattoos.

Hotel Meizanso does not have a reservable private hot spring bath. The outdoor baths in selected rooms provide private bathing, but they do not contain natural hot spring water.

Facilities

Café Elise provides a comfortable place to enjoy original coffee served in a cup of your choice. You can stop here in the morning or settle in with a drink after arriving in the afternoon.

For a casual late meal, Charabokotei serves ramen, fried dishes, and Gamagori udon prepared with a broth rich in the flavour of local clams. The late-night diner normally opens on selected evenings.

Salon Kotobuki combines drinks with karaoke in a lounge setting, while the private Flower Room karaoke boxes suit time with family or friends. These evening facilities operate on selected days.

The Omiage-Banashi shop carries Gamagori mandarin products, preserved foods, folk crafts, sweets, and seasonal gifts. A game corner and an automatic mahjong room provide more ways to spend time inside the property.

Bi-zen offers facial and body care, while Shomon provides in-room body and foot massage. Large banquet rooms, smaller Japanese halls, and convention spaces can support celebrations, group meals, conferences, and organised events.

Accessibility support includes loan wheelchairs, a step-free entrance option, and a first-floor accessible toilet with ostomate facilities, a changing platform, and a nappy-changing table. An electric vehicle charging station is available in the parking area.

Activities

Spend time beside Mikawa Bay, explore the waterfront around Miya Onsen, or visit Laguna Ten Bosch for attractions, seasonal displays, shopping, restaurants, and the fish market. A shuttle to Laguna Ten Bosch is available at selected times with advance arrangements.

Takeshima is one of Gamagori’s best-known landmarks. A bridge leads across the water to this protected island, where you can follow a short walking route through the grounds of Yaotomi Shrine.

Close to Takeshima, the Gamagori City Takeshima Aquarium introduces you to fish and other marine life from Mikawa Bay, the Pacific, and deeper waters. Its handwritten displays and close-up exhibits make it an easy addition to a family day out.

Gamagori Orange Park offers seasonal fruit picking. Depending on the time of year, you can pick mandarins, strawberries, melons, or grapes and taste some of the produce grown in the region’s warm coastal climate.

Local events bring a different atmosphere to the area throughout the year. Summer includes the Gamagori Festival and its large fireworks display, while autumn brings the centuries-old Miya Festival, known for its impressive procession into the sea.

Additional Features

A complimentary shuttle connects Hotel Meizanso with JR Mikawa-Miya Station. Pick-up is available during the afternoon with advance arrangements, and scheduled return services operate in the morning. Selected services also connect with Laguna Ten Bosch.

Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the property. Luggage storage, limited loan wheelchairs, baby chairs in the dining areas, heating for food brought for infants, and microwave sterilisation for baby bottles can also be arranged.

All accommodation rooms are non-smoking. Designated smoking rooms are located in shared areas. Parking, electric vehicle charging, banquet facilities, an outdoor coin laundry, and a step-free entrance option are also available.
