Overview
Stay beside the Chikuma River at Riverside Uedakan, one of the largest hot spring hotels in Togura Kamiyamada Onsen. Most rooms face the river, giving you wide views of the water and the mountains on the opposite bank.
Togura Kamiyamada Onsen has long welcomed people returning from pilgrimages to Zenkoji Temple. Its water became known as a place to wash away the strain of the journey and is also valued for its smooth feel on the skin.
You can spend your time bathing on the eighth floor, enjoying Japanese, Western, and Chinese buffet dining, or relaxing with karaoke, table tennis, and other indoor activities. Selected renovated rooms add private open-air or semi-open-air baths, while the top-floor twin rooms let you soak in free-flowing spring water whenever you choose.
Accommodation
You can choose from Japanese rooms, Japanese-Western rooms, Western rooms, two-room Japanese layouts, and renovated rooms with private open-air or semi-open-air baths. All current room categories are non-smoking, and most look towards the Chikuma River.
The Top-Floor Japanese Twin with Open-Air Bath includes two semi-double beds and a private bath supplied with free-flowing natural spring water. From the highest accommodation floor, you can enjoy the river and mountain scenery while bathing in complete privacy.
The Japanese-Western Twin with Semi-Open-Air Bath combines two beds with Japanese floor space. Futons can be prepared when you need additional bedding. The exact layout differs slightly between rooms, but each gives you separate areas for sleeping and relaxing.
The Japanese Modern Twin with Semi-Open-Air Bath includes two semi-double beds and a private bathing area. Its Japanese-inspired design works especially well when you prefer beds but still want the atmosphere of a traditional hot spring stay.
The Japanese Twin with Open-Air Bath is designed around two semi-double beds and a private outdoor bathing space. This room gives you a more personal bathing experience without following the timetable of the shared baths.
The standard ten-tatami Japanese Room includes a wide enclosed veranda facing the Chikuma River. You sleep on futons and can sit beside the window with tea while watching the water and mountains.
The smaller Japanese rooms offer six or eight tatami mats. Six-tatami rooms do not have a private bath and provide a simpler option when you plan to use the shared hot spring facilities. Eight-tatami rooms include a private bath and face the mountain side, where you can see the streets and buildings of the hot spring town.
The Japanese-Western Room includes beds and a spacious 12-tatami Japanese area, giving you enough room to relax together during the day. The Two-Room Japanese category provides two connected tatami rooms and suits a larger family or group. These rooms may face the river or mountains and do not include a private bath.
Western accommodation is available with either twin or single beds. These rooms provide a straightforward option when you prefer a bed and do not need a Japanese sleeping area.
Your room includes bath towels, face towels, yukata, shampoo, conditioner, body soap, a refrigerator, safe, and hair dryer. Toothbrushes, razors, brushes, combs, and shower caps are available from the amenity area near reception. Free Wi-Fi is available in every room.
Dining
Dinner is served as a 90-minute buffet in the large second-floor restaurant. You can choose from around 50 Japanese, Western, and Chinese dishes, including soba, tempura, fried chicken, curry, sashimi, sushi, salads, fruit, and changing seasonal food.
Alcoholic drinks and soft drinks are included with dinner. You can choose beer, sake, wine, highballs, or non-alcoholic drinks while returning to the buffet for more of your favourite dishes.
Seasonal fairs add limited-time food to the main selection. These menus often feature ingredients associated with Nagano, such as Shinshu beef, Shinshu pork, chicken, mushrooms, and local vegetables.
Additional dinner dishes include soy-simmered splendid alfonsino, Shinshu Tateshina beef steak, A5-grade Shinshu Premium Beef shabu-shabu, Shinshu salmon sashimi, and salt-grilled yellowtail collar. These dishes require a separate advance order.
Breakfast is also served as a buffet in the second-floor restaurant. Around 40 Japanese and Western choices include warm dishes, lighter morning food, and desserts. Both breakfast and dinner use open seating, although selected tables may be reserved for organised groups.
Meal starting times depend on the number of people staying that day and are confirmed during check-in.
Onsen and Wellness
The two eighth-floor bathing areas use natural water from Togura Kamiyamada Onsen. The clear, colourless water is classified as an alkaline simple hot spring and is heated to maintain a comfortable bathing temperature.
This water has long been called a beauty-enhancing spring because of its smooth feel. Its listed bathing qualities include support for fatigue, sensitivity to cold, joint discomfort, stiff shoulders, nerve discomfort, bruises, sprains, and stiffness after physical activity.
Chikuma no Yu is the open-air observation bath. From its elevated position, you can look across the Chikuma River and the mountains while feeling the outdoor air. This bath switches between men and women according to the calendar date.
On even-numbered dates, men can use Chikuma no Yu from 15:00 to midnight, while women can use it from 5:00 to 10:00 the following morning. On odd-numbered dates, women can use it from 15:00 to midnight, while men can use it from 5:00 to 10:00.
Sarashina no Yu is the large indoor bath on the same floor. Its schedule works in reverse, allowing you to use an indoor bath whenever Chikuma no Yu is assigned to the other side.
On even-numbered dates, women can use Sarashina no Yu from 15:00 to midnight, while men can use it from 5:00 to 10:00. On odd-numbered dates, men can use it from 15:00 to midnight, while women can use it from 5:00 to 10:00.
