Overview
Stay in the Ichinose area of Shiga Kogen at Hotel Sanraku, only about one minute on foot from both the Ichinose Family Ski Area and the Ichinose bus stop. This convenient position lets you reach the snow quickly in winter and begin mountain walks close to the hotel during the warmer months.
Shiga Kogen lies within Joshin’etsukogen National Park and includes forests, wetlands, ponds, ski slopes, and high mountain scenery. Winter brings skiing and snowboarding, while the green season opens the area for trekking, nature walks, cycling, and high-altitude sports training.
Hotel Sanraku is a straightforward mountain hotel rather than a luxury ryokan. Its strengths are the slope-side location, filling seasonal meals, an artificial mineral bath, practical ski facilities, and rooms suited to couples, families, groups, and training camps.
Accommodation
Hotel Sanraku has 42 rooms, including 38 Japanese rooms and four Western rooms. All rooms are non-smoking, with a designated smoking corner on the first floor.
The main Japanese room provides ten tatami mats and traditional futon bedding. Depending on availability, you may receive a larger 18-tatami room when you reserve this category.
Some ten-tatami rooms have a washlet toilet without a private shower. Other Japanese rooms include both a shower and washlet toilet. The traditional layout gives you enough space to sit together before the futons are prepared.
The Western Twin Room includes two beds, a private shower, and a washlet toilet. It accommodates up to two people and suits you when you prefer sleeping in a bed after skiing or hiking.
Every room includes a 32-inch television, humidifier, kettle, tea set, empty refrigerator, and washlet toilet. Towels, bath towels, a toothbrush, yukata, and basic bathing products are also provided.
Natural hot spring water is not available inside the rooms. Bathing arrangements differ by category, so select a room with a shower when you do not want to rely entirely on the shared bath.
Wi-Fi is available throughout the building.
Dining
Dinner is served in the main restaurant and changes with the season. Winter meals focus on generous hot-pot dishes that help you warm up after a day in the snow.
From spring through autumn, the menu may include mountain vegetables and other ingredients connected with the Shinshu highlands. The exact dishes depend on the season and your confirmed accommodation plan.
Breakfast is generally prepared as a Japanese meal. Current plans include options with dinner and breakfast, dinner only, breakfast only, or no meals, giving you flexibility when you expect to arrive late or leave early for outdoor activities.
Meals are served in the shared restaurant rather than inside your room or a private dining space. Let the hotel know about allergies or dietary restrictions well before arrival, as same-day changes may not be possible.
The café opens from morning until evening. You can stop for coffee during a break, while the substantial pork cutlet lunch is a convenient choice when you return from the slopes.
Onsen and Wellness
Hotel Sanraku does not have a natural hot spring. Its communal bathing area uses an artificial mineral bath known as Tron Onsen.
Separate shared baths serve men and women. Each bathing area includes a large indoor tub and a whirlpool section, giving you space to warm up after skiing, trekking, or sports training.
The baths normally remain open from 15:00 until 10:00 the following morning. This overnight schedule lets you bathe after dinner, later in the evening, or before breakfast.
The mineral bath is presented as particularly suitable after physical activity. Traditional advertised indications include fatigue, stiff shoulders, lower-back discomfort, sensitivity to cold, bruises, and sprains.
There is no natural spring source, open-air bath, sauna, reservable private bath, or room with a private onsen.
Guests with Tattoos
Tattoos are now allowed.
Facilities
The lobby gives you space to sit before check-in or after returning from the mountain. Two shared computers are available, and Wi-Fi covers the building.
A ski-drying room helps you prepare wet boots, gloves, and equipment for the following day. Ski, snowboard, clothing, and related equipment rentals are also available during the winter season.
The coin laundry is useful during longer ski holidays and sports camps. Luggage storage and parcel-delivery services make it easier to manage equipment and larger bags.
The café provides coffee and lunch, while the shop carries drinks, snacks, souvenirs, and Hotel Sanraku’s original apple jam.
A large hall can accommodate organised meals, celebrations, and group activities. A separate convention room supports meetings and smaller training sessions.
Elevators connect the accommodation floors. Parking is available, and a member of staff will direct you to the appropriate area when you arrive.
Activities
Walk about one minute to the Ichinose Family Ski Area. Its broad main slope suits a wide range of ability levels, while the Tengu Course provides a gentler route from the upper section.
Ichinose connects with the wider Shiga Kogen ski network. A common lift pass gives you access to linked ski areas across the resort, allowing you to explore well beyond the slopes closest to the hotel.
Night skiing operates at Ichinose Family on selected winter dates. Hours and operating days depend on snow, weather, and the seasonal calendar.
From late spring into autumn, Shiga Kogen offers more than 18 marked hiking routes across forests, wetlands, ponds, and subalpine terrain. Routes range from short nature walks to longer mountain trails, so you can select a course that matches your experience.
The nearby Ichinose and Takamagahara areas provide access to wetland walks and forest paths. Trail conditions can change because of snowmelt, damaged boardwalks, rain, and seasonal maintenance, so check the latest route information before setting out.
Hotel Sanraku also works as a base for summer sports camps and high-altitude training. The cooler mountain climate makes the area suitable for organised practice during the warmer months.
Additional Features
Check-in begins at 15:00, and check-out is by 10:00. The front desk normally begins service at 8:00.
The building is generally locked between 20:00 and 7:00 for security. Arrange late arrival in advance so you know how to enter after the doors are secured.
All rooms are non-smoking. You can use the designated smoking corner in the first-floor lobby.
The Ichinose bus stop is around one minute away. Direct buses from Nagano Station normally take about 80 minutes, depending on weather, traffic, and the seasonal timetable.
Complimentary parking is available. Snow and ice are common in winter, so suitable winter tyres and snow chains should be prepared when you arrive by car.
The hotel has received the fire-safety compliance mark, with the current certification valid through September 2026.
