Overview
Ito Yukitei is a relaxing hot spring ryokan in central Ito Onsen, close to the Matsukawa River promenade and about 10 minutes on foot from JR Ito Station. You stay in a quiet setting with easy access to the town, the arcade shopping streets, river walks, and Ito’s classic hot spring atmosphere.
The ryokan carries forward the hospitality of Tokaikan, which opened in 1928, and reopened on July 1, 2008 as Kutsurogi Biyori Ito Yukitei. You can enjoy source-flowing hot spring baths, creative seasonal kaiseki, calm rooms, and a long stay rhythm with check-in from 14:00 and check-out by 12:00.
Accommodation
Ito Yukitei has 27 rooms across four room types. Each room gives you a comfortable place to rest, with soft bedding, a simple Japanese feel, and views connected to the Matsukawa riverside setting. Rooms include Wi-Fi, heating and cooling, a refrigerator, safe, tea items, pajamas, towels, and basic bath amenities.
The Premium Room is the most spacious option at 81.5 square meters. It has a twin bedroom, Ryukyu tatami living space, shower, washlet toilet, and a private source-flowing hinoki cypress bath. This room works well when you want the comfort of in-room hot spring bathing and more space to slow down.
The Japanese Modern Room is 38 square meters and has bamboo flooring, low Japanese-style beds, a unit bath, and a relaxed layout that lets you rest as soon as you arrive. The Japanese Room is also 38 square meters, with a 10-tatami main room and a wide sitting area, making it a good choice when you want a more classic ryokan stay. The Corner Twin Room is 34.9 square meters and sits on the east-side corner of the third to sixth floors, with twin beds and a quieter layout that suits solo travel or a stay for two.
Dining
Dinner at Ito Yukitei is creative kaiseki prepared by chef Kazuhiko Ikeda, who has long experience in Kyoto-style kaiseki. The meal changes monthly and uses seasonal ingredients, with each dish arranged carefully on Japanese, Western, and glass tableware.
The main dinner course, Tokimeki no Bansan, follows a full kaiseki flow with aperitif, starter, appetizers, soup, sashimi, seasonal dishes, grilled dish, simmered dish, final side dish, rice, and dessert. The ingredients focus on Izu and the season, so the meal feels closely tied to the coast and mountains around Ito.
If you want a stronger Izu seafood focus, the kinmedai kaiseki plan highlights golden-eye snapper through dishes such as simmered kinmedai, kinmedai shabu-shabu, and kinmedai rice porridge. Optional dishes may include simmered kinmedai, domestic spiny lobster, turban shell, assorted small dishes, boat-style sashimi, and celebration cake with advance request.
Breakfast is served in the second-floor dining room. You start with Shizuoka tea, then enjoy a Japanese breakfast with selected ingredients such as grilled dried horse mackerel, quality nori, large Kishu Nanko umeboshi, rice, miso soup, and seasonal side dishes.
Onsen and Wellness
Ito Yukitei’s hot spring is a private-source, source-flowing sodium chloride spring, known as a “heat-retention bath” because the water helps the body stay warm after soaking. The water has a smooth feel and is associated with relief from cuts, burns, chronic skin conditions, neuralgia, muscle pain, joint pain, cold sensitivity, and tiredness.
The shared bathing areas include two large baths, Ishihana no Yu and Mokusei no Yu, each with an indoor bath and an open-air bath. Ishihana no Yu has a rock-style indoor bath and open-air bath, while Mokusei no Yu has a hinoki indoor bath and a cave-like open-air bath. The men’s and women’s baths switch at 5:00 in the morning, so you can enjoy both styles during your stay.
The large baths are open from 15:00 to 4:00 and again from 5:00 to 11:00. They close from 11:00 to 15:00 because the hot spring water is replaced daily for cleanliness. Towels are available in the changing rooms, and the bath area includes shampoo, conditioner, and body soap made with tea extract.
You can also reserve one of two private open-air baths free of charge during your stay. Hinokaku no Yu has the scent of cypress and a garden view, while Togano no Yu has a purple-blue ceramic bathtub. Each private bath is reservation-based and available for 45 minutes, with booking handled at check-in. The first-floor esthetic room also offers oil massage and relaxation treatments by advance reservation.
Guests with Tattoos
Ito Yukitei has shared public hot spring baths as well as free reservable private open-air baths. If you have tattoos, use the private open-air baths or book the Premium Room with its own source-flowing hinoki bath for a more comfortable and private soak.
Facilities
Ito Yukitei has a lobby lounge where you can enjoy tea and sweets after arrival, a first-floor shop with original items and Izu souvenirs, a first-floor bar lounge, an esthetic room, shared large baths, two private open-air baths, dining spaces, and free Wi-Fi. The shop sells items such as the chef’s chirimen sansho, Izu sweets, and local specialties. The bar lounge gives you a quiet place after dinner, with standard cocktails and monthly original cocktails prepared by the bartender.
Activities
You can walk from the ryokan to the Matsukawa River promenade, where the riverside path passes literary monuments and quiet town scenery. In spring, the cherry blossoms along the river create one of the most pleasant walks near the property, especially when the trees are lit at night.
The ryokan also sits close to Ito’s arcade shopping streets, so you can browse local shops, pick up souvenirs, or enjoy casual food around town. From Ito Station, you can travel farther around the Izu Peninsula, including coastal spots, hot spring areas, and classic Ito sightseeing places.
