Overview
Kamenoi Hotel Kamogawa is a resort hotel on the Pacific coast of Chiba, in Kamogawa City, described by the hotel itself as surrounded by blue seas and green mountains. The property sits close to Kamogawa Sea World and is about five minutes by car from JR Kamogawa Station, or approximately six minutes’ walk from the Kamogawa Sea World bus stop. The hotel has 110 rooms and two large public baths on separate floors, giving it a proper resort character rather than a simple business stay.
The hotel went through significant renovation work including a courtyard fireplace added in March 2021, and new deluxe rooms with open-air baths and saunas that opened in April 2025.
Accommodation
The hotel offers a range of room types across traditional, Western, and hybrid layouts. Japanese-style rooms give you tatami flooring and futon bedding in a calm setting with a view of the surrounding pine trees. The Japanese-Western twin combines a 6-tatami Japanese-style area with two single beds, giving you the atmosphere of a traditional room with the comfort of beds. For those looking for something more elevated, new deluxe rooms on the 7th floor opened in April 2025 feature private open-air baths and saunas, and measure approximately 70 square metres with an infinity-style bath that feels connected to the sea. Family rooms are also available. All rooms include an air purifier, coffee, and tea. Room amenities include yukata, slippers, bath towels, towels, and toothbrushes.
Check-in is from 3:00 PM and check-out is by 10:00 AM.
Dining
The hotel has two restaurants and a dining menu that changes with the seasons, built around what Kamogawa produces throughout the year. The dinner offer is a Japanese, Western, and Chinese buffet with around 60 dishes prepared in an open kitchen. The buffet includes Boso local specialities such as namero, a seasoned minced fish dish unique to the Boso Peninsula, and kinmedai, the prized golden eye snapper of the region. For those who want a more formal meal, kaiseki dinner courses are available from April 2025, and a special kaiseki plan features abalone, spiny lobster, and Kazusa Wagyu beef in a single course. The hotel also offers a reward plan where you choose one of the three signature Kamogawa ingredients: steamed abalone, Kazusa beef on an iron plate, or spiny lobster prepared with local sake.
The seasonal rotation is a genuine feature here: spring brings sea bream and bamboo shoots, summer brings lobster and abalone, and winter brings Kamogawa strawberries. Breakfast is a Japanese and Western buffet. A children’s menu is available at the restaurant.
Onsen and Wellness
The hotel uses the natural hot spring Nagisa no Yu and has two large public baths on separate floors, rotating daily between men and women.
The 7th floor observation bath gives you a panoramic view of the Pacific Ocean, with both indoor and outdoor bathing areas. A sauna opened on this floor in March 2025. The 1st floor garden bath, called Matsukaze no Yu, puts you among the surrounding pine trees and includes an open-air standing bath where you can feel sunlight coming through the foliage. Both floors have body soap, shampoo, and conditioner available, and hair dryers in the changing rooms.
Public bath hours are 5:00 AM to 9:00 AM and 12:00 PM to midnight. Day-use bathing is available for a fee outside of standard hours.
There is also a second-floor spa on site, though as of August 2023 the Karunakarara Spa is closed. Check with the hotel for the current status.
Guests with tattoos
Guests with tattoos are not allowed to use the public bath. However, entry is permitted if the tattoo is fully concealed by a sticker so it is not visible to other guests
Facilities
The two large public baths, one overlooking the Pacific on the 7th floor and one in the pine garden on the 1st floor, are the centrepiece of the hotel’s wellness offering. A courtyard with a fireplace installed during 2021 renovations gives you a relaxed outdoor space. A shop on site stocks local specialities, souvenirs, drinks, and sweets, and accepts Yu-Pack parcel delivery. Laundry machines are available, with dryers available for a fee. Free Wi-Fi runs throughout the building, though signal may vary in some areas. An elevator is installed and barrier-free facilities including handrails, step-free bathrooms, and a wheelchair-accessible toilet with emergency call system are available. Discount tickets for nearby tourist facilities are offered at the hotel.
Activities
Kamogawa Sea World is a six-minute walk from the bus stop directly in front of the hotel, making it one of the easiest hotel-to-attraction combinations on the Boso Peninsula. The aquarium-style facility features marine shows and close-up encounters with sea animals and is particularly popular with families.
The coastline around the hotel offers walking along the shore, beach time, and views of the Pacific that shift dramatically from morning to evening. The hotel’s seasonal dining and local ingredients give you a way to taste the region without leaving the building: the spring sea bream, summer lobster, and winter strawberries are genuinely local and specific to Kamogawa.
Nearby golf courses include Kamogawa Country Club. The hotel can arrange taxis for getting around. The hotel has sightseeing information and discount tickets at the front desk for local attractions.
