Overview

Stay beside Ago Bay at Kashikojima Hojoen, a large Japanese-style resort ryokan on Kashikojima Island. Every room overlooks the water, giving you views of the bay’s islands, ria coastline, passing boats, and pearl-cultivation rafts as the light changes from morning to evening.

Inside, a three-storey atrium garden with a waterfall introduces you to the ryokan’s Japanese design. From here, you can move between your ocean-view room, seasonal dining, natural hot spring baths, entertainment spaces, and wellness treatments without leaving the property.

Kashikojima Station is around three minutes away by complimentary shuttle. The bay cruise terminal is also within walking distance, making this a convenient base for exploring Shima, Ise Jingu, Yokoyama View Point, and the wider Ise-Shima region.

Accommodation

Every room faces Ago Bay. The main selection includes Japanese rooms with tatami and futon bedding, upper-floor rooms with beds, and spacious suites with private dining areas and scenic baths. All rooms are non-smoking.

The Suikei rooms occupy the upper floors of the Kayo Wing. Dinner and breakfast are served at the dining table inside these rooms, allowing you to eat privately while looking across the bay.

The Suikei Suite Floor occupies the tenth floor. Six suites combine a ten-tatami Japanese room, a twin bedroom, and a separate living and dining area. Each suite includes a panoramic bath overlooking Ago Bay from around 40 metres above the ground.

The floor also includes the single VIP Room 107. This large suite combines a Japanese room, bedroom, living and dining areas, and an open-air bath on the balcony. Its west-facing position gives you the chance to watch the sunset from the bath and the main living spaces.

The Suikei Premium Floor on the eighth and ninth floors offers two main layouts. The pure Japanese rooms include a spacious tatami area and a window-side dining table. The rooms with beds combine semi-double beds, a smaller tatami dining area, bench seating by the window, and sunset-facing views. Dinner and breakfast are served in both room categories.

The Rankei Superior Floor occupies the sixth and seventh floors of the Kayo Wing. Its Japanese rooms feature 12.5 tatami mats, a window-side sitting area, and a balcony that brings you closer to the sight of passing boats. Rankei twin rooms replace the tatami with two wide single beds, a sitting area, and a balcony facing the bay. Meals for these rooms are served in the dining area.

Kayo Wing Standard rooms sit on the fourth and fifth floors. These 12.5-tatami rooms include a window-side sitting area and a balcony where you can feel the sea breeze. Sanyo Wing Standard rooms occupy the third to sixth floors and offer between eight and twelve tatami mats, with views across the gardens towards Ago Bay.

The panoramic and open-air baths inside the suites use regular heated water rather than natural hot spring water. The natural onsen is available only in the shared bathing areas.

Your room includes a television, refrigerator, tea set, safe, air conditioning, hairdryer, air purifier, towels, bath towels, yukata, tabi socks, slippers, toothbrushes, shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. Selected upper-floor rooms also include a minibar, water purifier, and an expanded skincare set. Wi-Fi is available in every room.

Dining

Dinner centres on seasonal kaiseki cuisine prepared with ingredients from Ise-Shima and Mie. The exact menu changes with the season and your chosen plan, but meals may feature spiny lobster, abalone, Matsusaka beef, local seafood, Mie-grown rice, and regional dishes.

Current seasonal examples include whole spiny lobster sashimi, platters of Ise-Shima seafood, Matsusaka beef fillet cooked on a hot stone, Matsusaka beef shabu-shabu, steamed abalone steak, and live abalone grilled on a ceramic plate. Other courses may include tekone sushi, sea-lettuce clear soup, Mie Koshihikari rice, tempura, simmered dishes, and a seasonal dessert.

You can add selected dishes such as spiny lobster, abalone, or Matsusaka beef to your meal when available. Local sake, beer, shochu, and wine are offered alongside the kaiseki courses.

Suikei rooms include dinner and breakfast at the dining table inside your room. Rankei and standard room categories normally use the restaurant or another assigned dining area. Your confirmed accommodation plan determines the meal course and serving location.

Restaurant Ago no Umi sits on the second floor of the Sanyo Wing and provides table seating with views of the surrounding scenery. Dinner uses two reserved seating times, beginning at 17:30 and 19:30.

Breakfast is served from 7:00 to 9:00 as a buffet focused mainly on Japanese food. You can choose from rice, soup, grilled and simmered dishes, small side dishes, salads, and other morning items.

Children’s meals are available. Dietary adjustments for allergies should be requested at least five days before arrival. The buffet identifies eight main allergens, although all dishes are prepared in shared kitchen areas.

Onsen and Wellness

Ise-Shima Onsen flows into the shared Asanagi no Yu and Yunagi no Yu bathing areas. Asanagi no Yu is reserved for men, while Yunagi no Yu is reserved for women. The two sides do not change during your stay.

The spring source is Kintetsu Kashikojima Onsen. The water emerges at 38.4°C with a flow of 60 litres per minute and a pH of 7.7. It is classified as a sodium-chloride and bicarbonate spring with a weakly alkaline character.

The water has a smooth, slightly thick texture and is known for helping your body retain warmth after bathing. Traditional indications include muscle discomfort, joint discomfort, sensitivity to cold, fatigue, bruises, sprains, and recovery after illness. Its gentle feel has also earned it a reputation as a skin-beautifying spring.

The baths use heated water and a circulation and filtration system. No extra water is added, but chlorine-based treatment is used to maintain hygiene. The baths are not free-flowing.

The panoramic bathing areas look across Ago Bay through wide windows. You can choose between hotter and milder Mikage granite baths and also use a wooden bath, an outdoor bath, a sauna, and a cold-water bath.

Separate garden open-air baths sit closer to the bay. The men’s Asanagi no Yu is best placed for the morning light, while the women’s Yunagi no Yu faces the sunset side of the bay. From the water, you can watch boats, pearl rafts, islands, and changing colours across the sea and sky.

The garden baths are reached by walking around 50 metres from the main changing rooms. There are no washing stations beside these tubs, so wash in the main bathing area before walking to the garden bath. You can wear your yukata or wrap yourself in a bath towel along the connecting passage.

The shared baths are normally open from 12:00 until midnight and again from 5:00 until 9:00. Opening times may change during maintenance.

La Seine provides an additional way to relax. Treatments include fragrance-oil body care, facials, full-body care, foot care, and relaxation therapy. Selected treatments are available only to women. Spa appointments require advance booking, while some relaxation services may be available on the day.

Guests with Tattoos

If you have tattoos, you cannot use the shared indoor baths, outdoor baths, garden open-air baths, saunas, or cold-water baths.

Kashikojima Hojoen does not have a reservable private hot spring bath. The private panoramic and open-air baths inside selected suites use regular heated water rather than natural onsen water.

Facilities

Kashikojima Hojoen includes a front lobby, a three-storey atrium Japanese garden with a waterfall, Restaurant Ago no Umi, Bar Cascade, Karaoke Lounge Kirameki, seven private karaoke rooms, and Noodle Restaurant Soyogo. You can also use the Hanagoyomi souvenir shop, a casual clothing and accessories shop, banquet halls, meeting rooms, wedding spaces, Astro Bowl bowling alley, an arcade game corner, and La Seine esthetic and relaxation salon.

The souvenir shop carries Ise-Shima foods, pearl products, and original items. The bowling alley offers a retro indoor activity for evenings or poor-weather days, while the game corner includes crane games and rhythm games.

Wi-Fi is available in the rooms, lobby, restaurant, and most banquet areas. You can borrow a wheelchair, and an accessible toilet is available on the third floor. A microwave and ice machine are provided near the front lobby.

All rooms and indoor public spaces are non-smoking. Smoking is limited to designated areas. There is no laundry room or laundry service inside the property.

Activities

Begin with a walk to the Kashikojima Espana Cruise terminal, around seven minutes away. The sightseeing boat travels through Ago Bay for approximately 50 minutes, giving you views of the ria coastline, islands, and pearl-cultivation rafts from the water.

Yokoyama View Point is around ten minutes away by car. Its hillside observation decks and walking trails look across the full shape of Ago Bay. The paths pass through evergreen forest and connect several viewpoints at different elevations.

Shima Spain Village is around 15 minutes away by car, while Shima Green Adventure is around 11 minutes away. Kintetsu Kashikojima Country Club is also nearby when you want to add a round of golf to your stay.

Ise Jingu’s Inner Sanctuary is around 40 minutes away by car, and the Outer Sanctuary is around 45 minutes away. A reservation-based Pearl Shuttle also connects the Kashikojima resort area with Ise Jingu.

Mikimoto Pearl Island and Toba Aquarium are each around 30 minutes away by car. At Mikimoto Pearl Island, you can learn about cultured pearls and watch traditional ama diving demonstrations, subject to the day’s schedule and weather.

Inside the property, you can spend the evening bowling, playing arcade games, singing in a karaoke room, enjoying a spa treatment, or relaxing with a drink at the bar.

Additional Features

Check-in is from 15:00 to 18:00, and check-out is by 10:00. Contact the property in advance when you expect to arrive after 18:00.

The complimentary shuttle runs regularly between Kintetsu Kashikojima Station and the property from 8:40 to 18:30. You do not need to reserve a seat, and the journey takes around three minutes.

Complimentary on-site parking has space for 121 cars and 14 buses. Two EV charging units can serve up to four vehicles. You can also leave your luggage at the front desk before check-in or after check-out.

You can wear your yukata and slippers throughout the building, including the dining and entertainment areas.
