Overview
At Ryokusuitei in Boso Kamogawa, you step into a small Japanese inn shaped by the spirit of Wa — harmony, quiet care, and the warmth of wood and tatami. You can slow down beside a koi pond, feel tatami under your bare feet, and enjoy a stay that feels personal rather than crowded. The inn sits at 1385 Uchiura, Kamogawa, Chiba, and focuses on Japanese-style hospitality, private dining, seasonal food, and hot spring bathing.
Accommodation
You can stay in the main building or in the separate villa area, “Tsukinosato.” The main building has tatami-covered corridors and staircases, while the villa area has detached houses with outdoor baths. Ryokusuitei has 15 rooms, and each room has its own bath, so you can enjoy more privacy during your stay.
In the main building, you can choose from rooms such as the Japanese Suite Suigyoku, Sourai-no-Ma, a Shigaraki-yaki open-air bath Japanese room, a hinoki bath Japanese room, and the Meigetsu twin room with a hinoki bath. Suigyoku is the most spacious option, with a Japanese room, a flooring room, a twin bedroom, a marble bath, a Shigaraki-yaki open-air bath, a rain shower, a sauna, and a cold-water bath. Sourai-no-Ma and the Shigaraki-yaki open-air bath Japanese room both include open-air onsen baths, while the hinoki bath rooms give you the scent and feel of Japanese cypress.
In Tsukinosato, you can choose detached villa-style rooms such as Ho-no-Ne, Kaze/Mizu-no-Ne, Take-no-Ne, Kawa-no-Ne, and Sasa-no-Ne. These rooms include living spaces, tatami rooms, twin rooms or futons depending on the room type, outdoor or semi-open-air baths, and massage chairs in the villa rooms listed on the official site. Some villa baths also have floor heating.
All rooms include free Wi-Fi, air purifiers, humidifiers, dehumidifiers, large LCD TVs, Blu-ray players, water servers, and coffee makers. You also have a yukata and samue in your room, plus towels, bath items, cleansing products, hair tools, razors, cotton swabs, and other essentials. Chairs, simple beds, and wheelchairs can be requested, subject to availability.
Dining
Your dinner and breakfast are served in a private room at Wa Dining Kura, not in your room. This makes each meal feel calm and personal, whether you travel as a couple, with family, or with close friends. The dining space is non-smoking and includes private rooms with counter seating or table seating. Drinks include local sake, shochu, wine, sours, and soft drinks.
Dinner focuses on seasonal Shin-Iso Kaiseki, built around local fish, shellfish, vegetables, and other seasonal ingredients. Depending on your plan, you may choose a main dish such as Ise ebi spiny lobster, abalone, or Kazusa Wagyu. Ise ebi live sashimi is not offered from June to August because of the closed fishing season, and dishes may change depending on the catch and market supply.
Breakfast highlights carefully selected local Koshihikari rice, cooked just before you eat. After breakfast, you can enjoy coffee or tea. Dinner starts from 6:00 PM or 6:30 PM, and breakfast starts from 8:00 AM or 8:30 AM. You should share any ingredients you cannot eat when you book.
Onsen and Wellness
Ryokusuitei uses its own hot spring source, Uchiurayama Onsen Kura-no-Yu. The water is colorless and clear, and the inn lists benefits such as skin care, fatigue recovery, and relief from sensitivity to cold. The source has a temperature of 17.5°C, a pH of 8.63, and a discharge volume of 80 liters per minute. The listed spring components include metasilicic acid, metaboric acid, sodium ions, and hydrogen carbonate ions.
You can use two large communal baths, Yumemi-no-Yu and Hoshimi-no-Yu. The baths switch between men and women depending on the time. Yumemi-no-Yu has a tatami-covered washing area, which helps make the bathing space easier to use for children and older travelers.
You can also reserve the private bath, Gori-no-Yu, for one 45-minute session. Towels and bath amenities are prepared in the baths, so you do not need to bring items from your room.
Guests with Tattoos
If you have tattoos, you may not be allowed to use the public bath areas. The private bath may be available as an alternative.
Facilities
Ryokusuitei gives you several quiet spaces to enjoy before and after your bath. The main building has tatami flooring throughout the corridors and staircases. The Japanese garden, Ryokusuien, lights up at night, and the after-bath rest area faces the garden.
The after-bath rest area serves drinks from 3:00 PM to 10:00 PM and again from 6:00 AM to 10:00 AM. You can enjoy draft beer, hot coffee, barley tea, sports drinks, and mineral water. Alcohol is available only from 3:00 PM to 10:00 PM, and drinks should stay inside the rest area.
The villa area includes the water feature “Tsuki no Shizuku,” which lights up after sunset. From four of the detached villa rooms, you can see the water from a different angle and listen to its gentle movement in the evening.
Activities
You can book aroma relaxation treatments at Nadeshiko. Treatments include body massage, reflexology, facial care, and a combined body-and-facial course. Oils are selected after counseling, based on your condition and mood. Treatments are not available if you are pregnant, unwell, or heavily intoxicated. Men can use the service with a 10% surcharge, and Nadeshiko closes on Wednesdays.
You can also explore nearby places listed by Ryokusuitei, including Tanjoji Temple, Tainoura sightseeing boats, Seichoji Temple, Mamenbara Hydrangea Park, Kamogawa Sea World, Mother Farm, Yoro Valley, and Nomizo Falls.
