Overview
Step into the nostalgic charm of Sanyo Hotel, a traditional ryokan in Ikaho Onsen, Gunma Prefecture. This inn combines the atmosphere of Japan’s classic hot spring towns with warm hospitality and natural healing waters. When you arrive, the soft scent of wood and the gentle breeze from the mountains invite you to slow down and relax.
You’re just a short walk from the Ikaho Hawaiian Festival’s main venue, held each summer with live music, dancing, and bright island spirit. Whether you’re visiting for this lively event or simply looking to unwind, Sanyo Hotel gives you the comfort of a slower, more peaceful time.
Accommodation
Sanyo Hotel offers a peaceful space where you can spend time with the people you care about. Choose from Japanese-style rooms or larger special rooms with wide views of the surrounding Mikuni Mountains. If you stay on the top floor, you’ll wake to the sight of Mt. Onoko and Mt. Komochi.
Rooms include air conditioning, heating, a TV, refrigerator, safe, and telephone. Yukata, slippers, and a full set of toiletries are provided. Some rooms feature private baths and washlet toilets. Wi-Fi is available in all rooms, and the layout keeps things simple, so you can focus on enjoying your time away.
If you’re traveling with a small dog, you can stay together. Just bring a pet cage and keep your pet inside it while moving through the facility or staying in your room. Pets aren’t allowed in public spaces like the dining room or onsen.
Dining
Sanyo Hotel’s meals bring the rich flavors of Gunma to your table. Local ingredients from the Joshu region—fresh vegetables, branded beef, pork, trout, and handmade konjac—shine in each course. Dinner includes your choice of a charcoal-grilled feast or a hot pot dish, served in a cozy dining hall or private banquet space.
You can grill meat and seafood over a charcoal fire right at your table. Choose from beef, seafood, crab, or a mixed plate. Or, enjoy a hot pot of your choice—beef sukiyaki, beef shabu-shabu, or pork shabu-shabu—cooked fresh just for you.
Local sake pairs beautifully with these meals. You can also relax with a beer set in the lounge after dinner. In the morning, breakfast includes fresh vegetables, homemade pickles, and dishes that are gentle on your stomach.
Onsen and Wellness
Soak your stress away in Ikaho’s famous Shirogane-no-yu, a clear, gentle hot spring known for its healing properties. The water is smooth on your skin and helps with recovery from fatigue, joint pain, and stress.
The hotel features a large indoor bath made entirely of cypress wood. The warm scent of hinoki surrounds you as the heat from the water soothes your muscles. You can also enjoy the open-air bath, where the cool breeze from the mountains and the sound of birds complete the peaceful experience.
Hot spring hours run from early morning to late at night. The indoor bath is open from 5:00 to 10:00 and 15:00 to 24:00, and the open-air bath is available until 22:00. Towels, bath products, and amenities are provided for both men and women. After your bath, enjoy a cool drink of water and feel the warmth linger in your body.
