Overview

Nestled in Sapporo’s Chūō-ku district, Yamahana Onsen Tonden Japanese Inn is a contemporary ryokan built within a beautifully renovated sentō (traditional public bathhouse). Opened in 2020, it offers a unique fusion of modern urban living and authentic onsen culture. Located just a short walk from Yamahana-Kujō Streetcar Station, Nakajima-Kōen Subway Station, and the vibrant Susukino entertainment district, it places guests in the heart of the city while offering a peaceful, rejuvenating retreat. The ryokan draws from the Yamahana Onsen spring, renowned for its high-mineral, sodium-rich thermal waters that promote circulation and retain warmth long after bathing.

Accommodation

The inn features thoughtfully designed apartment-style rooms, ideal for families, groups, or long-term stays. Each suite is bright, spacious, and fully equipped with home-style amenities. Family suites can accommodate up to six guests and include kitchens, dining areas, washing machines, and a mix of beds and futons. All rooms come with air conditioning, heating, flat-screen TVs, refrigerators, microwaves, and electric kettles, creating a space that feels both practical and comfortable—just like home.

Dining

Meals are not provided, allowing guests the freedom to explore Sapporo’s diverse culinary scene. Each room includes a fully functional kitchen, making it easy to prepare meals with local ingredients from nearby markets. Alternatively, guests often enjoy takeout or dine out at nearby izakayas, particularly in Susukino, where charcoal-grilled yakitori, fresh seafood, and local specialties await late into the night.

Onsen and Wellness

The real highlight: every room boasts its own private onsen-fed bath. You’ll soak in strong sodium-chloride spring water rich in iron and calcium—perfect after a day exploring Sapporo. Enjoy ultimate privacy while unwinding in soothing mineral waters, anytime you like.

Guests with tattoos

You’re free to enjoy your private in-room onsen regardless of tattoos. Since baths are exclusive to your room, there’s no restriction—no awkward conversations, no signage.

Facilities

This ryokan offers what you need and nothing you don’t. Free Wi‑Fi, free parking for up to four cars (first‑come, first‑served), coin‑laundry in-room, non-smoking rooms, and multilingual staff ensure ease and comfort. It’s an unmanned-style check-in via a key code or virtual desk, so you arrive, settle in, and stay on your own rhythm.

Activities

Step outside and you’re just minutes from:

  • Nakajima Park, Susukino, Odori Park, Sapporo TV Tower, and Tanukikoji shopping arcade.
  • A convenience store and pharmacy right next door, plus charcoal grill izakaya “Yama to Arashi”.
