Overview

Saito Hotel sits in the peaceful hills of Kakeyu, a historic hot spring village with over 1,200 years of tradition. According to legend, a divine deer led a hunter to these healing waters, giving the springs their name: “Kakeyu” – deer, teach, hot water. You’ll find yourself surrounded by the harmony of traditional Japanese architecture and untouched mountain scenery. Stroll along forest paths, breathe in the fresh air, and discover the essence of well-being in this retreat focused on health, rest, and natural beauty.

Accommodation

Saito Hotel offers several room types designed for comfort and relaxation, whether you’re traveling alone or with family. The top-floor suites let you take in sweeping views of the countryside—ideal for couples or those staying longer. These rooms include a Japanese-style sitting area, twin-bed bedroom, and a living room that can accommodate up to five people.

Corner deluxe rooms provide panoramic views and are perfect for families or groups. You can choose between pure Japanese-style rooms or Japanese/Western combinations that feature both futons and beds.

If you need step-free access, the Universal Design Twin room offers a wide layout that’s easy to navigate with a cane or wheelchair.

For solo travelers or couples, standard rooms are cozy and simple, with either tatami or Western-style layouts. Every room includes air conditioning, a private bath, refrigerator, green tea set, and thoughtful touches like Tempur pillows and yukata.

Dining

At the buffet-style restaurant, you’ll find a colorful spread of over 40 dishes inspired by Japanese, Chinese, and Western traditions. Every plate is crafted with fresh, seasonal ingredients from Nagano. The menu changes daily, so every visit feels fresh—even for longer stays.

The kitchen follows the traditional “Ichiju Sansai” style of eating—one soup and three side dishes—balancing taste and nutrition. You’ll enjoy dishes made with locally grown vegetables, hand-picked to support your health and leave you feeling recharged.

Don’t miss the locally produced Koshihikari rice, grown with care by Mr. Baba in Nagano’s sun-soaked, pesticide-limited paddies. For the perfect pairing, try one of the selected local sakes or shochus, chosen to enhance the flavors of your meal.

Onsen and Wellness

Kakeyu’s hot spring water feels especially soft against your skin. Clear and odorless, it leaves your body warm long after you step out. As a weak alkaline spring, it’s known for therapeutic benefits—from relieving fatigue to helping with blood pressure and joint issues.

The large open-air bath brings you face-to-face with the changing seasons—lush green in spring, fiery red in autumn, and snow-covered silence in winter. Listen to birdsong as you soak, surrounded by mountain air and forest views.

Private baths are available if you want more privacy. Take your time and enjoy a quiet soak with a loved one, away from distractions.

The spacious grand bath sits beside a mountain stream. Try one of the hotel’s recommended bathing styles—cool down your body first with 36°C water, soak partially if you have health concerns, or sit beneath the water spout for a gentle massage. A reclining corner with slightly cooler water encourages longer, more meditative soaks.

The indoor hot spring pool is also available free of charge. Bring your swimsuit and choose between a swimming area or a walking lane. The pool area includes a jacuzzi, also requiring swimwear.

Guests with Tattoos

If you have tattoos, you can still enjoy the hot springs by reserving one of the private baths. These private spaces offer the full onsen experience in a personal setting.

Facilities

Saito Hotel includes all the essentials for a comfortable stay: bidet toilets, private baths, air conditioning, refrigerators, hot water pots, green tea sets, and free toiletries. Each large bath area provides extra amenities like shampoos, razors, skin lotions, and more, tailored separately for men and women.

The hotel offers free parking for 120 vehicles, accepts most major credit and debit cards, and provides four wheelchairs for use—just make sure to book a room that fits your needs.

Wi-Fi is available throughout the hotel, so you can stay connected as you unwind.
