Overview
Étoile et Fées brings you to Seseragi no Mori in Komatsu, Ishikawa, where a European-style country house stands among forest, river sounds, and quiet mountain scenery. The name means “star and fairy” in French, and the stay reflects that feeling through antique-style interiors, chandeliers, soft fabrics, vintage furniture, and a calm setting away from busy city streets.
This is not a standard ryokan. It is a small auberge-style inn with six bedrooms, vegetable-based meals, access to the historic Seryo Onsen private bath, and a shared world that includes La Petite Porte café, Morris Bakery, an interior shop, forest terrace spaces, and wellness experiences. You can book the whole building for a private stay or reserve a room, depending on your travel style.
Accommodation
Étoile et Fées has six bedrooms inside a Western-style house, with the option of whole-building rental or room rental. The full-house stay gives you use of the large living and dining space, lounge, bedrooms, and shared areas, making it a strong choice for family stays, friend groups, celebrations, and private retreats.
The first-floor twin rooms include private outdoor bathtubs on wooden decks facing the river and forest. These rooms also have shower rooms and toilets, and two rooms can connect, making them useful when you want to stay close to family or friends. The outdoor bathtubs are not available during winter depending on snow and temperature conditions, so the main building’s natural hot spring bath becomes the key bathing space during colder months.
The second-floor double rooms include loft spaces and balconies overlooking the clear stream. These rooms have indoor clawfoot bathtubs, toilets, and a warm European guesthouse feel. The loft spaces work well for children, while the balcony gives you a quiet place to enjoy the surrounding trees and river sound.
Rooms do not have televisions, keeping the stay focused on conversation, rest, and the forest setting. A television and streaming access are available in the first-floor living room. The building has a kitchen, but it cannot be used for cooking during your stay because the house also works as a model space for the interior shop. Rooms include heating and cooling, Wi-Fi, refrigerator, washlet toilet, bath items, towels, pajamas for adults, slippers, and selected shared equipment such as an electric kettle, microwave, tea set, and living-room television.
Dining
Dining at Étoile et Fées is part of the Seseragi no Mori experience. Meals are served at La Petite Porte, the renovated kominka café in the main building. The food follows a vegetable-auberge style, with no meat, fish, or eggs used in the dinner course. Dairy-free vegan meals can also be arranged with advance notice.
Dinner may include yuzu tea, salt tofu prepared like sashimi, cold and warm appetizer plates, soy-meat hamburger with steamed vegetables in a tajine pot, vegetable temari sushi, clear soup, dessert, and after-meal drinks such as coffee, tea, or Kaga bocha. The meal focuses on vegetables, soy protein, carefully selected seasonings, and gentle flavors rather than heavy courses.
Breakfast includes a vegetable plate, homemade vegan bread from Morris Bakery, and drinks such as coffee, tea, or Kaga bocha. The kitchen also pays attention to water, salt, sugar, rice, oil, vinegar, soy sauce, and other basic ingredients, using items such as local rice, mineral-rich salt, brown sugar or beet sugar, and handmade-style seasonings. Allergy and vegan requests should be shared in advance.
Onsen and Wellness
Étoile et Fées gives you access to Seryo Onsen in the main building at Seseragi no Mori. This historic hot spring is said to have been discovered around 1471 and has been loved for centuries in the forested upper area of the Osugi River valley.
The natural hot spring is offered as a reserved private bath for overnight stays. You reserve your bathing time at check-in and use the bath privately during your session. The bath is compact, with space for a small group and washing areas inside. Towels are taken from your room, while shampoo, conditioner, body soap, and a hair dryer are available in the bath area.
The spring quality is a colorless mirabilite-gypsum spring. The source temperature is around 33.6°C, and the water is heated and circulated to keep it at a comfortable bathing temperature. The spring is associated with support for neuralgia, muscle pain, joint pain, frozen shoulder, motor paralysis, joint stiffness, bruises, sprains, chronic digestive concerns, hemorrhoids, cold sensitivity, recovery after illness, fatigue recovery, cuts, burns, chronic skin concerns, and general health promotion.
You can also enjoy the footbath during your stay. It uses the same hot spring setting and gives you an easy way to warm your feet while looking toward the forest.
Guests with Tattoos
Étoile et Fées uses a reserved private hot spring bath in the main building, so you can enjoy the onsen privately with tattoos.
