Overview
Dormy Inn Niigata sits in the heart of Niigata City an eight-minute walk from JR Niigata Station. The hotel reopened on April 1, 2025 after a full renovation, bringing freshly updated rooms and expanded bathing facilities to one of the city’s most convenient addresses.
This is a hotel built around two things: a good night’s sleep and a proper hot spring soak. The natural hot spring water is transported directly from Iwamuro Onsen in Niigata Prefecture, giving you an authentic onsen experience in the middle of the city. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the property.
Accommodation
You can choose from compact single, economy semi-double, semi-double, double, twin, and large twin rooms. The compact single room measures 12.7 square meters, while the economy semi-double A and B rooms measure 14 square meters and come with a toilet but no in-room bath. Semi-double and double rooms measure 16 square meters, twin rooms measure 18 square meters, and large twin rooms measure 26 square meters.
The hotel has 229 rooms in total: 4 compact single rooms, 115 economy semi-double rooms, 20 semi-double rooms, 82 double rooms, 6 twin rooms, and 2 large twin rooms. The 4th floor is a smoking floor, while other room floors are non-smoking. Smoking booths are available on the 1st, 2nd, and 10th floors.
You also have useful rental items when available, including an iron and ironing board, trouser press, feather pillow, low-resilience pillow, sewing kit, phone charger, children’s slippers, children’s room wear, extension cord, desk lamp, and hair iron.
Each room also includes a flat-screen LCD TV with satellite channels, a refrigerator, an electric kettle, a hairdryer, bathrobes, slippers, and a green tea set. The layout is clean and practical, giving you space to unwind without distraction.
Dining
Breakfast is served daily as a Japanese and Western buffet, with freshly made egg dishes and a selection of small side dishes. What makes the Niigata breakfast stand out is the local specialty on offer: tare katsu don, a pork cutlet rice bowl topped with a secret sauce recipe that is unique to Niigata. It is one of the region’s most beloved dishes, and a good reason to come down early.
In the evenings, the hotel offers complimentary late-night ramen, available from 9:30 PM to 11:00 PM. This is a signature perk of Dormy Inn properties across Japan and a genuinely welcome way to end the day. After visiting the onsen, you can also pick up a complimentary Yakult drink and ice cream.
Onsen and Wellness
The bath area is called Taho-no-Yu. The indoor baths use natural hot spring water transported from Iwamuro Onsen in Niigata Prefecture. The spring type is sodium chloride spring, and the hotel lists benefits for neuralgia, muscle pain, joint pain, frozen shoulder, motor paralysis, joint stiffness, bruises, and sprains.
The public baths are open from 3:00 p.m. to 10:00 a.m. the next morning. The saunas close from 1:00 a.m. to 5:00 a.m. The women’s bath on the 2nd floor includes an indoor natural hot spring bath, a semi-open-air pot bath, and a nano mist sauna. The men’s bath on the 10th floor includes an indoor natural hot spring bath, an open-air bath using tap water, a water pillow, a pot bath, a high-temperature sauna with TV and auto löyly, and a cold-water bath.
The men’s 10th-floor bath also has an open-air area and a cave-style bath, which the hotel presents as a rare feature within the Dormy Inn brand. The women’s bath does not have a view, but it includes a mist sauna and a semi-open-air pot bath where you can feel the outside air.
For extra relaxation, you can use the hand-treatment space on the 10th floor. Laundry corners are also placed near the bath areas on the 2nd and 10th floors, which makes longer stays easier.
Guests with Tattoos
If you have tattoos, you are generally not permitted to use the public bathing facilities. However, if your tattoo is small enough to be covered with a waterproof patch (8cm x 13cm), you may be able to use the baths with the patch applied. Waterproof patches are available at the front desk. Contact the hotel before your stay to confirm the current policy and discuss your options.
