Overview

Find your way to a hidden corner of Niigata, where history, nature, and hospitality come together. Yuasobi Yado Akebono offers you more than a place to stay—it gives you a moment to slow down and reconnect.

Located in the famous Tsukioka Onsen area, this ryokan welcomes you with quiet comfort, a beautiful garden that changes with the seasons, and baths fed by 100% natural hot spring water. Since the discovery of this hot spring in 1914, visitors have soaked in its emerald-green beauty, known for leaving skin soft, smooth, and glowing. At Akebono, every detail invites you to relax.

Accommodation

Choose from a range of Japanese-style rooms designed with comfort and atmosphere in mind. Whether you’re traveling alone or with others, you’ll find the right space to unwind.

Tsukioka Onsen Source Outdoor Bath Rooms (“Shōan” series)

These rooms feature private open-air baths filled with Tsukioka’s famous spring water. Located in three unique rooms—“Chikukei,” “Baikō,” and “Shōgetsu”—this suite series gives you direct access to the healing waters.

Microbubble Bath Rooms (“Kohaku” and “Menou”)

Although not sourced from the onsen, these rooms offer a unique experience with ultra-fine bubble technology in the private outdoor bath. Relax in the warmth and enjoy a different way to experience bathing.

Suite Room (“Honkan Special Room”)

Located on the top floor, this spacious two-room suite includes a traditional reception area. It’s ideal if you want space to stretch out and a little more privacy.

Deluxe Room (“Suzukaze”)

Choose from two large rooms: one with a 14-mat tatami space and the other with 12-mat tatami. Each includes a soft sofa area, perfect for unwinding between meals and baths.

Superior Room (“Suimeisō” and “Honkan”)

On the second and third floors, these rooms overlook the garden or include additional lounge space. The natural light and seasonal views make them ideal for longer stays.

Standard Room (“Honkan 2F”)

Simple and clean, these rooms offer comfort and value. They’re perfect if you’re spending most of your time enjoying the baths or exploring the area.

Each room includes traditional amenities such as yukata, tea set, towels, toothbrush, hairdryer, comb, and more. Whether you’re here for the baths, the food, or the quiet, your room becomes your peaceful retreat.

Dining

Meals at Akebono celebrate the best of Niigata’s land and sea. You’ll taste fresh seafood from the Sea of Japan, seasonal vegetables grown nearby, and rice that Niigata is famous for.

Dinner

Enjoy carefully prepared meals that change with the seasons. The chef uses local ingredients to create dishes that reflect Niigata’s flavors—balanced, fresh, and deeply satisfying. You might find Shibata Wagyu, a high-quality local beef raised on rice straw, or seafood caught the same morning it’s served.

Breakfast

Begin your day with Koshihikari rice, known for its sweetness and shine. A variety of traditional side dishes accompany the rice, letting you enjoy Niigata’s morning flavors in a gentle, nourishing way.

Lunch

If you arrive midday, you can enjoy seasonal lunch plans with dishes like Echigo pork grilled on a hot plate or fresh-caught Spanish mackerel. Every meal is designed to help you savor your time here, bite by bite.

Children’s Meals

Kid-friendly options are available on request, with meals that are both fun and satisfying.

Local Sake and Drinks

Pair your meals with a wide selection of Niigata’s finest sake. From dry and crisp to smooth and mellow, each bottle has a character of its own. You can also try local beer and shochu unique to Tsukioka Onsen.

Onsen and Wellness

Tsukioka Onsen’s waters have long been praised for their beauty-enhancing qualities. The source water contains one of the highest levels of hydrogen sulfide in Japan. This sulfur-rich spring water leaves your skin smooth and radiant, while also keeping your body warm long after you leave the bath.

Bathing Facilities

The large communal bath and open-air bath use 100% natural onsen water, and both are available 24 hours a day. The open-air bath lets you enjoy the changing seasons or a peaceful night sky as you soak. A sauna is also available, giving you another way to relax.

The Water’s Color

Depending on the season, temperature, and even the weather, the water color can shift—from emerald green to milky white. This natural phenomenon adds a magical quality to every visit.

Guests with Tattoos

The ryokan does not publicly state a tattoo policy. If you have tattoos and would like to use the public baths, contact the staff in advance to confirm whether private bathing options are available.

Facilities

Garden: Enjoy seasonal views throughout the property. Cherry blossoms in spring, deep greens in summer, fiery leaves in autumn, and quiet snow in winter create a different mood with each visit.

Smoking Booth: All rooms are non-smoking. A dedicated smoking area is available for those who need it.

Free Wi-Fi: Available throughout the building so you can stay connected while you disconnect.

Check-In / Check-Out: Check-in begins at 3:00 PM. Check-out is by 10:00 AM.
