Overview

Relax Resort Hotel gives you a private-feeling hillside stay above Atami, with wide views across Sagami Bay, Hatsushima, Izu Oshima, and the lights of the town below. You stay only about five minutes by car from Atami Station, yet the elevated setting feels far removed from the movement of the city center. All rooms face the ocean, making the sea and sky part of your stay from morning until night.

This small-scale resort hotel combines natural hot spring bathing, Italian dining, spa treatments, and individually designed rooms. Some spaces draw inspiration from Bali, with canopy beds, imported furniture, warm materials, and private balconies. Other rooms take a cleaner contemporary approach, while one Japanese-style room gives you a more traditional atmosphere with its own entrance.

You come here when you want to spend more time inside the hotel rather than treat your room as somewhere to sleep between sightseeing trips. You can enjoy the view from your balcony, dine on a full Italian course, relax in the hot spring and sauna, book an aroma treatment, or choose a detached villa with its own natural hot spring open-air bath.

Accommodation

Every room has a different layout and design, so your experience changes depending on the category you choose. The main building includes ocean-view double rooms, twin rooms, corner rooms, rooms with jacuzzi baths, rooms with balcony open-air baths, and a Japanese-style room with a private entrance. Room sizes range from a compact but comfortable 31 square metres to a spacious 65 square metres.

The 65-square-metre Corner Twin with Open-Air Bath gives you two Simmons double beds and a large 20-square-metre balcony. The balcony includes a private open-air bath and shower booth, allowing you to bathe while looking across Atami. The 58-square-metre Resort Double with Open-Air Bath adds a Bali-imported king-size canopy bed, while the 58-square-metre Modern Double offers a Simmons king bed, a Le Corbusier-designed LC2 sofa, and a private bath facing the bay. The balcony baths in these main-building rooms use heated water rather than natural hot spring water.

For an indoor bathing experience with a view, the 55-square-metre Panoramic Jacuzzi Twin includes two Simmons semi-double beds and a round Jackson jacuzzi positioned toward the Atami scenery. The 51-square-metre Jacuzzi Twin also includes a circular Jackson bath, two Simmons double beds, and a spacious bathroom where you can relax without leaving your room.

The 43-square-metre corner rooms make the most of their position with wider sea views. You can choose a Modern Corner Double, Modern Corner Twin, or Resort Corner Twin with Bali-style canopy beds. The 34-square-metre Modern Double and the 35-square-metre Resort Twin and Resort Double offer a simpler layout while keeping the ocean-facing balcony. The Resort Double includes a thick Simmons Beautyrest mattress and a king-size bed.

The Modern Japanese Room is the only room of its kind and gives you a more private arrival through its own entrance. The 31-square-metre space includes two single beds rather than futons, making it comfortable when you want Japanese design without floor-level sleeping.

For natural hot spring bathing inside your accommodation, choose one of the detached villas. The 87-square-metre Villa Suite includes a private natural hot spring open-air bath, two semi-double beds, a king-size daybed, a living area, a work desk, two televisions, a Nespresso machine, and space for up to four people. The 48-square-metre Villa Double includes a king-size canopy bed, private natural hot spring open-air bath, spacious washing area, Nespresso machine, and a quieter location away from the main building.

Rooms include Wi-Fi, television, refrigerator, safe, electric kettle, air purifier, hair dryer, bathrobes, sleepwear, and toiletries. Complimentary drinks in the refrigerator include mineral water, green tea, cola, orange juice, and beer, with Perrier also prepared in the villa rooms.

Dining

Dining centers on Organic & Natural NINE, where you enjoy Italian cuisine shaped by ingredients from Shizuoka, Izu, and other parts of Japan. The kitchen places strong attention on vegetables, using organic produce from contracted farms and ingredients grown in the hotel’s own kitchen garden. Natural fish, selected domestic beef, carefully raised chicken, and Kagoshima Kurobuta pork also form part of the menu.

Dinner is served as a full Italian course rather than traditional Japanese kaiseki. Depending on your course and the season, your meal may include Shizuoka Amera tomato with basil, fresh sea bream carpaccio from Hayakawa Port, a seasonal soup, sea urchin pasta prepared in the NINE style, kinmedai cooked as acqua pazza, grilled domestic beef, or a warm caramelised dessert. Higher-course options may include spiny lobster, kinmedai, and a larger selection of starters.

The cooking keeps the natural character of each ingredient at the center. The kitchen uses different natural salts according to the dish, sunflower oil as its main cooking oil, alkaline ion water, and fewer chemical seasonings and preservatives wherever possible. The wine selection includes Japanese and international bottles, along with champagne, sparkling wine, cocktails, and non-alcoholic drinks.

Breakfast can follow a Japanese or Western style depending on your accommodation plan. Restaurant and in-room breakfast options may also be available according to the plan you select. Room dining gives you further flexibility, with substantial dishes during set daytime and evening hours and lighter items, drinks, and snacks available throughout the day and night.

Onsen and Wellness

Relax Resort Hotel draws natural hot spring water from within its grounds. The spring rises at 88.2°C with a flow of 41.4 litres per minute and has a weakly alkaline sodium-calcium chloride composition. Traditional bathing indications include relief from neuralgia, muscle and joint discomfort, bruises, sensitivity to cold, tiredness, cuts, burns, and some long-term skin concerns.

SPA L&R includes a natural hot spring bath, sauna, and cold-water bath. You can move between the warm spring water, sauna heat, and cool water to create your own bathing routine after travel or sightseeing. From midnight until 6:00 AM, the bathing facility becomes a complimentary private bath, giving you a quieter way to enjoy the space during the night.

The detached Villa Suite and Villa Double include private open-air baths supplied with natural hot spring water. You can soak whenever you like without leaving your accommodation. The open-air baths attached to rooms in the main building use heated water, so choose a detached villa when source-fed onsen water inside your room matters most.

For extra relaxation, Relax Body offers all-hand treatments using aroma oils extracted from natural plant materials. The spa includes private treatment rooms and a room designed for two people, allowing you to enjoy a massage or beauty treatment alone or together. The full treatment menu is also available to men.

Guests with Tattoos

If you have tattoos, a detached villa with its own natural hot spring open-air bath gives you the clearest and most private bathing option. You can enjoy the onsen inside your accommodation without using the shared SPA L&R. Rooms in the main building with open-air or jacuzzi baths also give you private bathing space, although their water is not drawn from the natural spring.

Facilities

Relax Resort Hotel includes Organic & Natural NINE restaurant, an ocean-view lounge, SPA L&R with a natural hot spring bath, sauna and cold-water bath, private treatment rooms at Relax Body, room dining, complimentary Wi-Fi, and free on-site parking. The lounge combines different designer chairs and sofas with artwork by SHIGERU, creating a comfortable place for coffee and tea during the day or wine and cocktails in the evening.

You also have butler and concierge support, luggage assistance, room service, complimentary in-room drinks, and help with local plans and transport. All accommodation faces the ocean, while balconies, private baths, jacuzzi rooms, and detached villas give you different ways to enjoy the view. Pets cannot stay at the hotel.

Activities

You can easily spend your stay enjoying the hotel itself. Start with coffee on your balcony, soak in the hot spring, use the sauna and cold bath, book an aroma treatment, enjoy an Italian dinner, and return to your room for the night view. On Atami Sea Fireworks Festival dates, the hillside position and ocean-facing rooms give you an impressive view of the display above the bay.

When you want to explore, Kinomiya Shrine is about a 15-minute walk away. Atami Sun Beach and Kiunkaku are around 25 minutes away on foot, with Kiunkaku also about 10 minutes away by car. Atami Castle is about 15 minutes away by car, while other local options include MOA Museum of Art, the shopping streets near Atami Station, coastal cafés, and the waterfront.

The uphill location makes a taxi the easiest choice when you travel with luggage. Once you return from the town, the hotel’s height and small scale help you leave the busier side of Atami behind.
