Overview

Stay three minutes on foot from Shinshu-Nakano Station at Hotel Route-Inn Grand Nakano Obuse. Opened on June 14, 2023, the hotel gives you convenient rail and road access to Obuse, Yudanaka, Shibu Onsen, Jigokudani Yaen-Koen, and the mountain areas of northern Nagano.

The hotel has 166 rooms, a natural hot spring bath, Japanese and Western buffet breakfast, an evening restaurant, and free parking for more than 100 vehicles. This combination works well for business travel, sightseeing, skiing trips, and overnight stops between Nagano City and Shiga Kogen.

After exploring the region, you can return for dinner at Restaurant Nagomi, check the bath’s crowd level on your room television, and soak in natural Entoku Onsen water until late at night.

Accommodation

Choose from Single, Semi-Double, Twin, Japanese-Style Twin, Deluxe, and Accessible Twin Rooms. Every room follows the Route-Inn Grand specification and includes free Wi-Fi, a private unit bathroom, and a smart television.

Single Rooms measure 12 square metres and include one 130-centimetre-wide bed. The compact layout gives you a desk and everything you need for a solo business trip or short sightseeing stay.

Semi-Double Rooms measure 14 square metres and include one 140-centimetre-wide bed. This category accommodates one or two people and gives you slightly more space than the Single Room.

Standard Twin Rooms measure 16 square metres and include two 100-centimetre-wide beds. Japanese-Style Twin Rooms offer the same room size but ask you to remove your shoes at the entrance. Lower beds create a more relaxed floor-level layout.

Deluxe Rooms measure 31 square metres and accommodate up to four people. The tatami-covered floor allows you to remove your shoes and relax throughout the room. Mattresses are prepared on the raised sleeping area according to occupancy, and the sofa changes into an additional bed when four people share the room.

Accessible Twin Rooms measure 19 square metres and include two 110-centimetre-wide beds. The room has no internal steps, while wider entrances, sliding bathroom doors, handrails, and enough bathroom space for wheelchair movement make the layout easier to use.

Most rooms are non-smoking. Selected Single, Semi-Double, Standard Twin, and Japanese-Style Twin Rooms permit heated-tobacco products. Smoking corners are also available on the first and fifth floors.

Your room includes a 42-inch smart television, or a 50-inch television in the Deluxe Room, along with a humidifying air purifier, refrigerator, kettle, charging cable, telephone, hair dryer, private unit bath, Washlet toilet, and free Wi-Fi.

Personal items include shampoo, conditioner, body soap, hand soap, toothbrushes, combs, razors, cotton swabs, body-wash towels, skincare products, green tea, black tea, towels, slippers, and a jinbei-style lounge outfit. You can also watch WOWOW without an additional charge, while video-on-demand films require a separate purchase.

Dining

Begin your morning with a Japanese and Western buffet at Restaurant Nagomi. Warm dishes, rice, bread, salads, and changing breakfast items allow you to choose a light meal or something more filling before sightseeing or work.

Freshly baked butter croissants are one of the morning highlights. Two or three European-style breads also change from day to day, with choices such as pretzel rolls, Kaiser rolls, cereal rolls, and sunflower-seed bread.

Breakfast is served from 6:30 to 9:00. You can check the restaurant’s current crowd level on the television inside your room before going downstairs.

Restaurant Nagomi reopens for dinner from 17:30 to 21:30, with final orders at 21:00. The restaurant closes on Sundays, although holiday operating schedules can change.

The dinner menu includes rice bowls, noodles, set meals, Route-Inn’s original Ueda curry, sashimi, small plates, and izakaya-style food. You can enjoy a complete evening meal or order lighter dishes with beer, sake, shochu, or another drink.

A 60-minute self-service drink plan includes draft beer, highballs, sours, sweet-potato shochu, and sake. You need to order at least one food item, and an additional 30-minute extension is available. Final registration for the drink plan is at 20:00.

Part of the restaurant can be reserved in advance, while the remaining tables remain available without a reservation. You can also dine at Nagomi when you are not staying overnight.

Onsen and Wellness

Relax in Tabibito no Yu, a natural hot spring supplied by Entoku Onsen. The clear water carries a light sulfur scent and feels gentle against the skin.

The spring is classified as a chloride spring with weakly alkaline, hypotonic, and high-temperature qualities. Its listed bathing benefits include support for fatigue, sensitivity to cold, nerve discomfort, muscle discomfort, joint discomfort, stiff shoulders, and bruises.

The water is heated, diluted, circulated, and filtered to maintain a comfortable temperature and clean bathing conditions. It is not a fully free-flowing spring system.

Separate indoor communal baths are available for men and women from 15:00 to 2:00 and again from 5:00 to 10:00. These long hours allow you to bathe after a late arrival or before an early departure.

Your room television displays the current bath occupancy, helping you choose a quieter time. The women’s bath has a locked entrance, and access is provided through reception.

The women’s bathing area includes ReFa Fine Bubble U shower heads and ReFa Beautech Dryer S+ hair dryers. Bathing items include shampoo, conditioner, body soap, lotion, moisturiser, cotton swabs, tissues, and hair dryers. Women also receive cleansing oil, brushes, and cotton pads, while the men’s area includes shaving foam, combs, and razors.

The natural spring is available only in the shared bathing area. Your private room bath uses regular heated water.

Guests with Tattoos

You can use the shared natural hot spring bath only when every tattoo is completely concealed beneath covering seals.

Each seal measures 11.4 by 20 centimetres, and seals are available at reception. You cannot use the communal bath when your tattoos cannot be fully covered.

There is no private natural hot spring bath.

Facilities

A complimentary self-service coffee machine is available in the lobby from 15:00 to 22:00 and from 6:30 to 10:00. You can enjoy a drink before leaving in the morning or after returning from dinner.

The first-floor coin laundry includes washing machines and dryers with automatically dispensed detergent. Your room television can display the current operating status, helping you avoid unnecessary trips downstairs.

A microwave is available on the first floor 24 hours a day. You can also use the complimentary ice machine, vending machines, luggage storage, delivery service, morning calls, and 24-hour reception.

Irons and trouser presses can be borrowed when you need to prepare business clothing. Paid dry-cleaning and video-on-demand services are also available.

Free Wi-Fi covers the accommodation and shared areas. The building includes elevators, an automated external defibrillator, accessible facilities, smoking corners, and secure access to the women’s bath.

Free flat parking is available for up to 109 vehicles on a first-come basis. A reservation system for the 6-kilowatt EV charger began in January 2026, allowing you to reserve an overnight charging period when you stay at the hotel.

Activities

Take the Nagano Dentetsu line to Obuse, a town known for chestnut sweets, gardens, historic streets, and its connection with artist Katsushika Hokusai. You can also reach central Obuse in around 15 minutes by car.

Visit the Hokusai Museum to see works from different stages of the artist’s career. Hokusai spent time in Obuse during his later years and created important pieces through his friendship with local merchant and artist Takai Kozan.

Walk through the centre of Obuse to visit chestnut confectionery shops, small museums, cafés, temples, and the Chestnut Path. Chikufudo’s main shop, around 15 minutes away by car, offers chestnut rice, confectionery, ice cream, and other local specialities.

Ippongi Park is around six minutes away by car. Its rose garden contains hundreds of rose types alongside cherry trees and perennial plants. The main rose seasons usually arrive in early summer and autumn.

Jigokudani Yaen-Koen is around 20 minutes away by car, followed by a forest walk of approximately 30 minutes. The park allows you to observe wild Japanese macaques in their natural mountain environment. Snow, ice, mud, and uneven paths can affect the walk, so suitable footwear is important.

You can also continue towards Yudanaka and Shibu Onsen for traditional hot spring streets or travel higher into Shiga Kogen for skiing, hiking, lakes, wetlands, and mountain scenery.

Check-in begins at 15:00, and check-out is by 10:00. Reception remains staffed 24 hours a day.

Shinshu-Nakano Station is around three minutes away on foot. The Shinshu-Nakano Interchange is around ten minutes away by car.

A supermarket is around five minutes away on foot, while a convenience store can be reached in around five minutes by car.
