Overview
At Tachibana Shikitei, you stay in the heart of Yamashiro Onsen, one of Kaga’s historic hot spring towns. The ryokan has welcomed travelers since 1868 and carries the warm, careful spirit of traditional Japanese hospitality into every part of your stay. You step inside, remove your shoes, and feel the gentle warmth of paulownia wood underfoot as you begin to slow down.
Yamashiro Onsen has a history of around 1,300 years, and the area around the ryokan makes it easy to enjoy old bath culture, temples, local craft shops, and quiet walks through the town.
Accommodation
Your room combines Japanese design with a calm sense of space. You can choose from Japanese-style rooms, Japanese-Western rooms, junior suites, and premium rooms with open-air baths. Many room types include twin beds, tatami spaces, dining areas, wood decks, or lounge corners, so you can relax in a style that suits your stay.
For a more private bathing experience, choose a room with an open-air bath. Several rooms draw Yamashiro Onsen’s No. 1 source directly into the bath, so you can soak whenever you like during your stay. Some baths use fragrant cypress, while premium corner rooms add extra space, a living area, and views toward Yamashiro Onsen town, Yakuo-in Temple, and Hattori Shrine.
The rooms opened or renovated in March 2023 include Japanese junior suites with open-air baths, a junior suite with a cypress open-air bath, and renewed premium Japanese-Western rooms. You can enjoy wide openings, Kaga-inspired colors, Sealy beds, BoConcept sofas in select rooms, and a setting designed for long, unhurried rest.
Dining
Dinner brings you into the flavors of Hokuriku and Kaga. You enjoy seasonal kaiseki made with carefully selected local ingredients, including organic vegetables, seafood, and regional specialties. Meals are served either in your room or in the private dining room Senshinkan, depending on your room type.
A typical kaiseki course may include sashimi from the Sea of Japan, seasonal appetizers, simmered dishes, steamed or grilled fish, wagyu beef shabu-shabu, rice from a local contract farmer, miso soup, pickles, and dessert. Seasonal plans may feature Noto beef, nodoguro, black abalone, or Hashidate-tag snow crab in winter.
Breakfast gives you a slower start to the day with Ishikawa Koshihikari rice purchased directly from local contract farmers and dishes made mainly with local ingredients. A Japanese breakfast is standard, while a Western breakfast may be arranged when requested in advance.
Onsen and Wellness
The onsen is one of the main pleasures of your stay. Tachibana Shikitei uses a natural hot spring source that flows continuously, a rare feature in Yamashiro Onsen. The water is classified as a sodium-calcium sulfate, monosulfate, and chloride spring, with weak alkalinity.
You can bathe in the men’s public bath, Ukon no Yu, where the large indoor bath connects to a natural stone open-air bath facing the garden. In the women’s public bath, Sakon no Yu, the hot spring flows into a granite bathtub, with a garden open-air bath surrounded by trees.
Rooms with open-air baths let you enjoy the same source water in private. You can bathe during the day, again in the evening, and once more before checkout, with the open-air room baths available from 3:00 p.m. to 11:00 a.m.
Guests with Tattoos
If you have tattoos, you should not use the shared bathing areas. People with tattoos cannot use the shared or onsite public bathing facilities.
For the most comfortable stay, book a room with a private open-air bath. This lets you enjoy Yamashiro’s hot spring water in your own space without using the public baths.
