Overview
Stay in the centre of Akakura Onsen at The Address Akakura, a boutique hotel with 12 spacious apartment-style rooms. The main lift at Akakura Onsen Ski Area is around two minutes away on foot, while Akakura Kanko Ski Resort is also within easy reach.
The central location lets you step outside for skiing, equipment rental, cafés, and restaurants without relying on transport. When you return, you can prepare food in your kitchenette, relax in your apartment, or soak in the natural onsen. It is an appealing choice when you want the independence of an apartment with the helpful services of a small mountain hotel.
Accommodation
Each apartment combines Western beds with tatami flooring, giving you a comfortable space that still feels connected to Japan. Every room has a dining area, kitchenette, private bathroom, heating, air conditioning, television, free Wi-Fi, toiletries, and a hairdryer.
The room selection includes King and Deluxe King Studios, One-Bedroom Apartments, Two-Bedroom Apartments, and a larger Deluxe Two-Bedroom Apartment. Selected rooms look toward Myoko’s mountains and the town, while others face across the valley toward Madarao.
The 33-square-metre Deluxe King Studio includes a king bed that can be arranged as twins, along with a kitchenette and a private bathroom with a bath or shower. The 41-square-metre One-Bedroom Apartment adds a separate sleeping area, a sofa bed, and an additional toilet.
The 52-square-metre Deluxe Two-Bedroom Apartment gives you separate kitchen and living spaces. A fold-out sofa provides another sleeping option when you are travelling together.
Your kitchenette includes cooking equipment, a four-burner cooktop, and an oven. Free washing and drying facilities also make the hotel practical for a longer ski holiday or an extended green-season stay.
Dining
Akakura Cafe gives you an easy place to begin the day with coffee, breakfast, and fresh dishes. Lunch, sweets, vegetarian food, vegan choices, and gluten-free options may also be available. In the evening, the space changes into a relaxed bar serving wine, gin, whisky, cocktails, and warming seasonal drinks.
Samurai Restaurant is currently closed. However, you stay in the centre. However, you stay in the centre of Akakura’s main street, with restaurants and bars close by. Your private kitchenette also gives you the freedom to prepare simple meals and eat according to your own schedule.
Onsen and Wellness
After skiing, hiking, or exploring Myoko, ease tired muscles in the hotel’s separate indoor onsen baths for men and women. There is no open-air bath, but the indoor setting gives you a warm and quiet place to recover before returning to your room.
The baths use natural, free-flowing water from Akakura Onsen. The spring contains calcium, magnesium, sodium, sulfate, and bicarbonate minerals. The water is traditionally valued for helping with fatigue, muscle discomfort, poor circulation, sensitivity to cold, minor cuts, and dry skin.
Akakura Onsen has welcomed bathers since 1816. Its water travels from a source on Mount Myoko and reaches the hot spring town at a naturally comfortable bathing temperature.
Guests with Tattoos
You can use the shared indoor onsen baths if you have tattoos.
Facilities
The Address Akakura has separate men’s and women’s onsens, Akakura Cafe, a bar, free Wi-Fi, and complimentary washing and drying facilities. Your apartment includes a private kitchen and dining area, allowing you to enjoy more independence than you would have in a standard hotel room.
A heated ski and snowboard room helps your equipment dry overnight. You can also arrange private ski instruction, backcountry guiding, local tours, and seasonal transport through the hotel.
There is no parking inside the property grounds. A public car park is located a short walk away.
Activities
Walk around two minutes to the main lift at Akakura Onsen Ski Area or continue to Akakura Kanko Ski Resort. Ski and snowboard rental shops stand close to the hotel, so collecting equipment and preparing for the mountain feels simple.
Hotel shuttles provide access to selected Myoko resorts, including Ikenotaira and Myoko Suginohara, with additional trips offered to Madarao during supported periods. Private guides and backcountry tours can help you explore beyond the main marked slopes.
For a different winter experience, join a snowmobile tour through the Joetsu-Myoko landscape or plan a day trip to Jigokudani Snow Monkey Park.
During the green season, walk through Myoko’s forests, visit Naena Falls, or spend time beside Lake Nojiri. The lake offers boating and water activities, while nearby trails, golf courses, and mountain roads give you more ways to discover the region.
Additional Features
Check-in begins at 3:00 PM, and check-out is by 10:00 AM. Transfers between Myoko-Kogen Station and the hotel are included with eligible bookings but must be reserved in advance.
Longer stays are available, and the apartment kitchens, laundry facilities, ski room, central location, and natural onsen make it easy to settle in for more than a few nights.
The Address Akakura combines the freedom of a self-contained apartment with quick access to the slopes and the atmosphere of Akakura’s hot spring village. You can ski, dine, explore, and soak without spending your holiday travelling back and forth across Myoko.
