Overview
Sanrakuen welcomes you to the peaceful hot spring village of Shogawa in Toyama Prefecture. Founded in 1924 as a restaurant inn, this ryokan continues to preserve the essence of traditional Japanese hospitality. At Sanrakuen, you can reconnect with the rhythms of nature and immerse yourself in cultural richness that modern life often forgets. Enjoy the healing power of the hot springs, savor seasonal meals, and relax in a space designed to refresh both your body and mind.
Accommodation
Sanrakuen offers 21 rooms, each styled with classic Japanese décor that reflects the changing seasons. Every room includes traditional elements such as tatami flooring, wooden accents, and views of the surrounding landscape. The moment you step inside, you’ll feel the calm atmosphere wrap around you.
Rooms are decorated with seasonal touches to help you feel in tune with nature. You’ll find thoughtful amenities like yukata, tea sets, and slippers. Free Wi-Fi is available in every room, and all spaces are non-smoking. For smokers, designated areas are located on the first floor and near the entrance.
Dining
Your stay includes beautifully prepared meals served in the ryokan’s restaurant. Dinner features “Sanrakuen Kaiseki,” a traditional multi-course meal built around the theme of beauty and health. Every dish highlights local ingredients and seasonal flavors, with a focus on freshness. Enjoy delicate sashimi, rich broths, grilled dishes, and a hot pot made with high-quality Japanese beef.
For breakfast, you’ll enjoy a light yet nourishing meal using seasonal ingredients from Toyama. From the first bite to the last, the dishes aim to support your wellness and energize your day.
Onsen and Wellness
Sanrakuen offers two types of cloudy hot springs. One is a cloudy white hydrogen carbonate bath that softens your skin. The other is a reddish-brown ferruginous bath, rich in iron, known for its soothing effect on skin and women’s health.
You can relax in the large communal bath or enjoy fresh mountain air in the open-air bath. Each soak brings warmth and calm, helping you release tension and leave stress behind.
Sanrakuen also houses Japan’s first full-scale biofango therapy center. Fango is a hot spring mud therapy originally from Italy, known for its detoxifying and pain-relieving benefits. The ryokan works closely with Italian specialists and has developed its own “Shogawa Biofango” technique. You can experience this natural therapy under the care of trained professionals.
