Overview
Yunosato Ikemori Annex AMAZA is a small natural hot spring inn in Himi, Toyama. You stay in Sashizaki, a quiet satoyama area where fields, trees, local food, and warm spring water shape the stay.
AMAZA began as a renovated annex of long-established Yunosato Ikemori. The space was renewed to create a more refined and restful lodging experience while keeping a close connection to the original hot spring inn. The concept centers on making the inn itself the purpose of your trip, not just a place to sleep.
This is a strong choice when you want privacy, thoughtful design, local Toyama food, natural hot spring bathing, and a stay that feels easy to move through. The inn has only two rooms, SORA and MIRE, so the atmosphere stays intimate and quiet.
Accommodation
You choose from two rooms: SORA and MIRE. Both rooms have 64㎡ of indoor space, semi-double beds, a living and dining area, a mini kitchen, bathroom, washroom, and toilet. Each room can accommodate up to four people, making the inn suitable for couples, friends, or family stays.
SORA is bright and open. The room has a 12㎡ terrace and a bathroom facing a small inner garden. The name suggests sky, space, and openness, and the room suits you when you want light, air, and a more relaxed sense of movement.
MIRE has a quieter, more shaded mood. Its name means “future” in Korean, and the room draws on the beauty of dim light often found in old Hokuriku houses. The room has a 5㎡ terrace and a calmer, more inward feel, making it a good choice when you want to slow down and enjoy stillness.
Both rooms use Sealy beds and include carefully chosen interior materials such as natural textures, brass details, and tiled bathrooms. Room equipment includes air-conditioning, hot water, washlet toilet, washbasin, hair dryer, washing machine, refrigerator, mini ice maker, electric kettle, stand TV, dining table and chairs, beds with spring mattresses, night tables, hanger rack, and security box.
Amenities include shampoo, conditioner, body soap, hand soap, toothbrush, hairbrush, cotton, cotton swabs, razor, towels, bath towels, and original pajamas. The inn uses organic towels and soap items, adding a softer feel to the room experience.
The building is not fully barrier-free, but it has been designed with fewer steps and easier wheelchair movement in mind. Toilets and bathrooms include original handrails that balance function with a clean design. Two Yamaha electric-assist wheelchairs are also available for use around the building and nearby area.
Dining
Dining at AMAZA focuses on local Toyama ingredients and what the inn calls “jodo cuisine,” meaning food shaped by the land, feeling, and local culture. The cooking blends Japanese food, French-inspired touches, local ingredients, and traditional fermented seasonings.
Dinner may include Himi beef, fresh fish from Himi Fishing Port, seasonal sashimi, sushi, local vegetables, and creative dishes that bring together Japanese and French ideas. The menu changes with the season, weather, and market supply, so each stay can feel different.
The kitchen also uses pesticide-free and organic Koshihikari rice from nearby contract farms, morning-picked vegetables, self-grown apples, self-grown herbs, and rare algae-based herbal tea. Vegan food is also available, making the dining style more flexible than many small hot spring inns.
Food is served on pieces by Toyama-based makers and craft artists, including Etchu Seto ware, Wajima lacquerware, and glasswork. This gives the meal a stronger connection to Hokuriku craft culture.
In winter, you may be able to choose a yellowtail kaiseki plan featuring Himi’s famous winter buri, including shabu-shabu-style yellowtail from Himi Port.
Dinner is served in your room, with meal start times at 17:00, 17:30, or 18:00. Breakfast is also served in your room from 8:00 to 9:30. Breakfast is a Japanese meal prepared by the proprietress, with warm rice cooked in a clay pot.
After dinner, the front area becomes a sake-focused bar counter. The proprietress, who is a certified sake taster, can help choose a drink to match your meal. The bar is available by advance reservation, and pairing drinks are separate from the stay plan.
Onsen and Wellness
Hot spring bathing is one of the main highlights at AMAZA. You can use the private open-air bath reserved for AMAZA stays. The bath uses natural hot spring water and lets you soak under the night sky. On clear nights, you may see stars while relaxing in the warm water.
The private open-air bath has a lift-equipped tub, allowing you to enter the bath while seated in a dedicated wheelchair. A waterproof sofa can also be used inside the tub, making the bath easier to enjoy if you need more support.
The spring is a sodium chloride spring. The source temperature is 47.5°C, and the water is kept at around 38°C to 39°C in the tub. The listed benefits include neuralgia, muscle pain, joint pain, frozen shoulder, motor paralysis, bruises, sprains, cuts, burns, chronic skin concerns, chronic women’s health concerns, chronic digestive concerns, chronic constipation, hemorrhoids, cold sensitivity, and weak constitution.
When more than one group stays at the same time, private bath times are adjusted between rooms.
You can also use the baths at nearby Yunosato Ikemori, which connects with AMAZA. Yunosato Ikemori has a spacious open-air rock bath, large indoor bath, and barrel sauna. The open-air bath can fit more than 10 people and looks toward the satoyama scenery. The indoor bath also uses the same skin-softening hot spring water and works well in colder weather.
The barrel sauna uses local Himi Satoyama cedar. It is set around 80°C to 90°C and allows self-löyly. A cold bath uses well water kept around 15°C, and reclining chairs are available for cooling down. The barrel sauna has set operation days and may require reservation depending on the day, so check availability before planning your stay around it.
Guests with Tattoos
The main AMAZA bath is a private open-air bath, which may make bathing easier if you have tattoos. Also confirm the policy before using the shared baths or sauna at Yunosato Ikemori.
Facilities
AMAZA keeps its facilities small and focused. You can use the two rooms, private open-air bath, front and bar counter area, star-viewing hut, terraces, mini kitchens, in-room dining spaces, and access to the connected Yunosato Ikemori baths.
The star-viewing hut sits in a place chosen for night-sky viewing. You can sit back in a reclining chair and look up at the stars through the stone-framed space.
The bar area opens after dinner with advance reservation. The counter is set lower than a standard bar counter, making it easier and more comfortable for more people to use.
Each room includes practical equipment such as a washing machine, mini ice maker, refrigerator, electric kettle, bathroom, toilet, mini kitchen, dining table, and security box. This makes the stay feel private and self-contained.
The inn also provides two electric-assist wheelchairs. The building is not completely barrier-free, but the design reduces steps and supports easier movement through the rooms and shared areas.
Free outdoor parking is available for about 50 cars.
Activities
You can spend much of your time inside AMAZA without needing a full sightseeing plan. A relaxed stay might include dinner in your room, time at the sake bar, a private open-air bath under the sky, stargazing, and a slow breakfast the next morning.
You can also use the connected Yunosato Ikemori baths and barrel sauna, giving you more ways to enjoy the hot spring during your stay.
