Overview
Stay in the quiet mountain village of Seki Onsen, surrounded by the forests and peaks of Myoko Togakushi Renzan National Park. Komatsuya is a small Japanese-style hotel where tatami, shoji screens, natural hot spring water, and warm hospitality bring you closer to the character of the region.
In winter, you can spend your days skiing the deep powder of Seki Onsen and the wider Myoko area. During the warmer months, you can explore national park trails, cycle through the mountains, or simply enjoy the cooler air. When you return, a private onsen, freshly prepared food, and a comfortable room give you time to recover at your own pace.
Accommodation
Most rooms combine tatami flooring and shoji screens with Western-style beds. This gives you the atmosphere of a traditional Japanese room without requiring you to sleep on a futon. Every room includes a private en-suite bathroom, Google TV, charging points for your phone and laptop, and tea and coffee-making facilities.
Superior King and Deluxe King Rooms include a king-size bed and work well when you want a simple room for two. The Superior Single Room provides a smaller space with a single bed when you are travelling alone.
The Deluxe King or Twin Room can be arranged with one king-size bed or two single beds. A larger configuration adds another single bed, giving you more flexibility when you are staying together.
The Deluxe Family Room has a different layout from the tatami rooms. This is the only room with wooden flooring and includes a king bedroom, a separate room with bunk beds, and a sitting area with a television. You can also look toward Seki Onsen Ski Resort from the room.
Dining
Start your morning with breakfast before heading into the mountains. You can choose between an international-style breakfast and a Japanese breakfast, allowing you to begin the day with the food that suits you best.
In the evening, you can return to the restaurant for freshly prepared Japanese dishes. Dinner focuses on the pleasure of enjoying Japanese cooking after a full day of skiing, hiking, or sightseeing.
The bar gives you a relaxed place to end the evening. You can choose from well-known Japanese beers and spirits or try drinks produced in Niigata and neighbouring Nagano, including regional craft beer and sake.
Onsen and Wellness
Komatsuya’s indoor onsen is reserved for private use, giving you time to bathe without sharing the space. The water comes directly from the natural spring at Seki Onsen and has the distinctive reddish-brown colour for which the area is known.
The hot spring is a chloride spring rich in iron. Its salt content helps support circulation and allows your body to retain warmth after you leave the bath. The water is especially welcome after skiing, snowboarding, hiking, or spending a cold day outdoors.
There is no open-air bath, but the private indoor setting lets you slow down and enjoy the mineral-rich water without the atmosphere of a large public bath.
Guests with Tattoos
You can use Komatsuya’s private onsen if you have tattoos. You enjoy the bath without sharing it with other bathers, so you can soak comfortably and privately.
Facilities
Komatsuya includes a restaurant serving breakfast and Japanese evening meals, a bar with Japanese and regional drinks, and a private indoor onsen supplied with natural Seki Onsen spring water. Free high-speed Wi-Fi is available throughout the building, while Google TV and personal charging points help you relax or stay connected inside your room.
Activities
Seki Onsen Ski Resort places you close to some of Myoko’s best-known powder conditions. You can enjoy the local slopes or use the complimentary morning and afternoon transfers to Akakura. From Akakura, regular ski shuttles connect you with Ikenotaira Onsen and Suginosawa Onsen, giving you access to more of the Myoko Kogen ski area.
You can also arrange ski or snowboard equipment and lessons for your time on the mountain. For a longer day trip, visit Jigokudani Monkey Park to see Japanese macaques around the natural hot springs.
When the snow clears, you can walk through Myoko Togakushi Renzan National Park, explore nearby mountain bike trails, or take on the region’s road cycling routes. You can also play golf at Myoko Country Club, an 18-hole course near the foot of Mount Myoko.
Additional Features
Complimentary transfers are available at the beginning and end of your stay from Sekiyama Station, Myoko Kogen Station, and the bus terminal in Akakura. Your arrival details are arranged before your stay so you can travel into Seki Onsen without organising a separate local transfer.
Free morning and afternoon transport also connects Komatsuya with Akakura during the ski season. This makes it easier to divide your time between Seki Onsen’s powder slopes and the larger ski areas around Myoko.
