Overview

You arrive at 萃sui-諏訪湖 on the shore of Lake Suwa, where eight rooms create an intimate setting for a quiet stay. From the moment you enter, the lake becomes part of your experience. Its color and mood shift throughout the day, from the soft light of morning to the glow of sunset and the reflections of the night sky.

The name “萃” carries the idea of gathering together and returning to yourself. You can spend time with someone important, enjoy the hot spring water, taste the flavors of Shinshu, and step away from the pace of everyday life.

Lake Suwa also carries deep cultural meaning. The lake lies between the four shrines of Suwa Taisha and appears in local legends that have shaped the region for centuries. From this lakeside base, you can combine private bathing and dining with walks, shrine visits, seasonal scenery, and local sake.

Accommodation

You stay in one of eight lake-facing rooms, and every room includes its own stone open-air hot spring bath. The baths overlook Lake Suwa and have large windows that you can open or close depending on the weather. Heating around the bathing area helps you enjoy the water during Suwa’s cold winters.

You can choose between the Wide Type and Standard Type. The four Wide Type rooms offer 75 square metres of space, with a Japanese-style main room and a separate wooden-floor bedroom. You also have both an indoor bath and a spacious stone open-air hot spring bath. Steps and handrails make entering the bath easier, and one Wide Type room includes additional accessibility features.

The four Standard Type rooms offer 45 square metres of space. Each room combines a Japanese tatami area with a wooden-floor sleeping space and twin beds. Natural wood, pale plaster walls, and traditional tatami create a simple setting that keeps your attention on the lake. Your private stone bath also includes a handrail and enough space for two people to soak comfortably.

Both room types include twin beds, a television, DVD player, Bluetooth speaker, tea set, coffee, and black tea. Top-grade Simmons beds support a comfortable night’s sleep, while furniture from Hida maker Kashiwa Mokko adds the warmth of Japanese craftsmanship. Natural plaster walls and carefully treated wooden flooring complete the calm interior.

Children of elementary school age and older can stay at 萃sui-諏訪湖. This age policy helps maintain the quiet atmosphere throughout the inn.

Dining

You enjoy dinner and breakfast in a completely private dining room, allowing you to focus on each dish and spend the meal at your own pace. Some dining rooms also provide wheelchair access.

Dinner, known as the “Kutsurogi-no-zen,” brings together seasonal ingredients and the flavors of Shinshu Suwa. The menu changes four times a year, using cooking methods that suit each ingredient and season. Rather than relying on heavy decoration, each course focuses on natural flavor, careful timing, and local character.

Your meal may feature freshly grilled fish, miso soup, rice cooked in an earthenware pot, seasonal produce, and dishes finished in front of you. You can adjust the final seasoning to suit your taste when appropriate.

Fresh organic vegetables come from producers in Nagano, while many of the seasonings also come from the region. The kitchen uses Takeya miso from Suwa, soy sauce from Okubo Shoyu in Matsumoto, Mikado mirin from Okaya, and Masumi sake from Suwa. These ingredients add a clear sense of place to each meal.

Dinner also gives you the chance to use chopsticks made with traditional Kiso lacquerware techniques. You can experience their weight and texture during your meal, and similar pieces are available in the gift shop.

Breakfast, called “Satoka,” offers a gentle start to your morning. You can enjoy rice porridge, rolled egg prepared with dashi, grilled fish, homemade pickles, and small dishes made with carefully selected ingredients. The light, balanced flavors pair well with an early soak in your room or a walk beside the lake.

A reduced-portion dinner with the same number of courses can be arranged. Meals can also be adjusted for food allergies when details are provided before your stay.

Onsen and Wellness

Hot spring bathing forms the heart of your stay. All eight rooms receive water from the Nanatsugama source of Kamisuwa Onsen, a blended source with a long connection to Lake Suwa. The name Nanatsugama refers to seven places in the lake that once remained unfrozen during the coldest part of winter because hot spring water rose from below.

The water is a simple sulfur spring and is weakly alkaline, hypotonic, and naturally hot. Its recognized bathing indications include fatigue recovery, sensitivity to cold, poor circulation, and long-term muscle or joint stiffness.

Your room’s private stone bath lets you enjoy this water whenever you choose. You can open the large windows for fresh air and an open view, or close them when the weather becomes cold or windy. Heating around the bath keeps the space comfortable in winter. Each private bath is drained and cleaned every day.

On the rooftop, the mixed open-air bath “Wata Shizuku” offers a wide, uninterrupted view across Lake Suwa. The edge of the bath appears to meet the lake, creating a striking scene as the water, mountains, and sky stretch out in front of you.

You wear the provided bathing clothes in this mixed bath, so you can soak together with your partner, family, or friends. The design offers good body coverage, and no reservation is needed. The rooftop bath remains available throughout the year.

A drink bar sits beside the rooftop bath, with complimentary choices and some paid drinks. Wi-Fi is also available on the rooftop. On rainy or snowy days, traditional woven hats help protect you from the weather while you soak.

The shared rooftop bath uses a circulation and filtration system with controlled chlorination. The bathing area receives daily cleaning, and the water is fully drained for scheduled cleaning at least once each week.

Guests with Tattoos

You can use the private open-air hot spring bath in your room without sharing the bathing space. Tattoo access to the mixed rooftop bath depends on the size of the tattoo. Because bathing clothes are required in the rooftop bath, covered tattoos are easier to accommodate.

Facilities

You can relax in the Irori Cha-no-Ma lounge, where a traditional sunken hearth faces a small garden. Check-in and check-out take place here, and you can enjoy an oyaki dumpling with seasonal tea as a welcome treat when you arrive before 5:00 p.m.

After 8:00 p.m., the lounge becomes the Jizake Bar. You can try sake from the five breweries of Suwa, along with other Nagano sake, Shinshu wine, non-alcoholic cocktails, and bar snacks. The bar remains open until 11:00 p.m., giving you a comfortable place for a drink after dinner or a final soak.

The rooftop mixed bath includes a deck, drink bar, and Wi-Fi. You also have access to private dining rooms, a gift shop with Kiso lacquerware and regional items, a smoking room on the first floor, and parking beside the inn. All rooms and shared indoor spaces remain non-smoking.

A complimentary shuttle connects you with the west exit of JR Kamisuwa Station. Pick-up runs from 2:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., and return transfers operate after check-out until 11:00 a.m. You do not need to reserve the shuttle, although you should call after reaching the station.

Activities

The lakeside path in front of the inn invites you to take an easy walk in the morning or around sunset. You can watch the light move across the water, see seasonal changes along the shore, and return to your private bath whenever you feel ready to rest.

Tateishi Park offers one of the best elevated views across Lake Suwa. You can reach the park in around 30 minutes on foot or about 12 minutes by car. The uphill walk can feel demanding in hot weather, but the view across the lake and surrounding town rewards the climb.

You can also join the complimentary Suwa Taisha Four-Shrine bus tour. The guided bus visits the Maemiya and Honmiya shrines of the Upper Shrine and the Harumiya and Akimiya shrines of the Lower Shrine. An onboard presentation introduces the history of Suwa and its spiritual traditions as you travel between the four sites.

The bus usually departs twice each day, at 9:20 a.m. and 1:20 p.m., from the neighbouring sister property, around one minute away on foot. Advance booking is required, and services may pause on selected festival dates, during the New Year period, or for maintenance.

During summer, fireworks add another side to Lake Suwa. The Suwa Lake Fireworks Festival takes place on August 15, while shorter evening displays usually run from late July to late August. Depending on the event and weather, you may be able to watch the fireworks from your room’s bath or the rooftop open-air bath.

Additional Features

萃sui-諏訪湖 gives you a private hot spring bath in every room, full lake views, two spacious room styles, private dining, and a rooftop bath where you can soak together while wearing bathing clothes. With only eight rooms, you can enjoy personal service without the busy feeling of a large resort.

The property is entirely non-smoking apart from the designated first-floor smoking room. Parking and a shuttle from JR Kamisuwa Station make arrival straightforward, while the lakeside position places walking paths, local sake culture, Suwa Taisha, and seasonal events within easy reach.

You can stay with children of elementary school age or older. Pets and day-use visits are not accepted, helping protect the private atmosphere for overnight stays.
