Overview

Step into Hiranoya and leave your everyday routine behind. Here, you’re surrounded by nature and timeless design—both manmade and natural elements blended into a peaceful space. Take a moment to slow down. Watch the light shift across Mikawa Bay, write a letter to your future self, or hand-grind coffee beans while their warm aroma fills the air.

This ryokan invites you to reconnect with yourself. Whether you’re soaking in mineral-rich hot springs or relaxing in a sauna shaped by artists and architects, Hiranoya offers space to breathe, think, and simply be. Built in 1932 and continuously evolving, the inn now looks toward the next hundred years, guided by the idea of discovering a more meaningful kind of richness.

Accommodation

Choose from four distinct buildings, each designed to help you relax in your own way. All rooms are non-smoking and equipped with air conditioning, private baths, and thoughtful amenities.

At Ryokusuitei, the East Wing, you can enjoy a semi-open-air bath from your own room. These rooms sit at the highest point of the property and give you access to an exclusive rooftop deck, where views of Mikawa Bay and the surrounding mountains stretch to the horizon.

At Yurakutei, the West Wing, every floor has a unique theme—Tou, Aya, and Takumi—highlighting Japanese tradition through ceramics, textiles, and fine wood. The large windows bring in the sea breeze and natural light, creating a calm, refined atmosphere.

The Main Building offers classic Japanese-style rooms with tatami floors and a nostalgic warmth. You can also choose a pet-friendly room here, where you and your dog can relax together in nature’s calm.

Each space offers privacy, comfort, and an invitation to slow down and enjoy the moment.

Dining

Hiranoya’s kaiseki cuisine reflects the seasons and the local bounty of Mikawa Bay. The dishes change with the time of year, using seafood caught nearby and vegetables grown in the region. Every meal celebrates the flavors of the season, crafted with care and creativity.

Your meal might include delicacies like venison, duck simmered in yuzu pepper, or freshly caught fish. Each ingredient tells a story—of place, of time, and of the people who brought it to the table.

Onsen and Wellness

The natural hot spring water at Hiranoya flows from deep underground in Mitani, drawn from a rare alkaline simple spring with low salt and calcium content. Known as a “whitening spring,” this water gently warms your body and nourishes your skin. Its emulsifying properties help remove dead skin cells, leaving your skin smooth and refreshed.

Enjoy a tour of the hotel’s three unique baths:

  • Kirara no Yu: A large indoor bath surrounded by clean granite and soft light.
  • Garden Open-Air Bath: Bathe outdoors while surrounded by wood and the soft sounds of nature.
  • Cave Bath: A rustic, stone-lined bath with the feeling of the earth surrounding you.

After your soak, head to Karakuri Square, where you can relax with mineral water and browse a small exhibit on traditional karakuri dolls.

Guests with Tattoos

If you have tattoos, you can use the baths from 9:00 PM to 11:00 PM. Private sauna options are also available if you’d like a more personal experience.

Facilities

Hiranoya is more than a place to sleep—it’s a space designed to support thoughtful living.

  • Observation Deck: Exclusive to guests in Ryokusuitei’s special rooms, the rooftop offers a 360-degree view of Mikawa Bay, the ocean, and the statue of Kobo Daishi.
  • Sauna: Choose between public and private options, including the Cave Sauna and Lounge Sauna, both authentic Finnish-style. The saunas use IKI heaters and KERKES stones for a deep, relaxing heat.
  • Private Sauna Rooms (shiro & tya): Customize the light, temperature, and music. Enjoy Aesop amenities, soft natural light, and quiet moments surrounded by garden views and original artworks.
  • Coffee & Letters: Hand-grind beans and savor a slow cup of coffee. Or write a “Time Letter” to your future self—an invitation to reflect and look ahead.

Activities

At Hiranoya, every activity encourages reflection and presence. Soak in a beauty bath. Watch the sunrise from your window. Spend an afternoon reading, writing, or simply watching the light change. You’ll find joy in the ordinary—and discover something extraordinary in the process.
