Overview
Step into the quiet charm of Sansuikan Kinryu, a traditional Japanese ryokan with over a century of history. Located in Shizuoka Prefecture on the shores of Lake Hamana, this hot spring retreat offers you scenic beauty, handcrafted cuisine, and the comfort of a long-established inn. Whether you’re traveling from Tokyo, Osaka, or Nagoya, the journey to Sansuikan brings you through peaceful countryside and ends with a view of Japan’s tenth-largest lake.
From every room, you can gaze out over Lake Hamana. The changing colors of Mt. Okusa and the calm surface of the lake welcome you into a slower rhythm of life.
Accommodation
Every room at Sansuikan Kinryu opens to a sweeping view of Lake Hamana. You’ll wake to soft morning light reflecting off the water and end your day with sunsets over distant mountains. Choose from Japanese-style rooms with tatami floors, Western-style beds, or spacious suites that combine both.
Some rooms include private cypress wood baths, while others offer large spaces perfect for families. Whether you stay in a compact twin room or a full suite, the lake always stays in view.
All rooms include modern comforts like Wi-Fi, a private shower, and a Washlet toilet. Yukata, towels, and personal care items are provided so you can settle in right away.
Dining
The kitchen at Sansuikan Kinryu celebrates the natural richness of Lake Hamana and the nearby Enshu Sea and Mikawa Bay. Each meal showcases local seafood and seasonal vegetables, with an emphasis on careful preparation and beautiful presentation.
You might enjoy eel raised in Lake Hamana, known for its tender texture and deep flavor. Other specialties include wild-caught pufferfish, soft-shelled turtle, and rare mud crab—each one chosen for freshness and culinary history. Kuruma prawns, another local treasure, round out the menu with their sweet, delicate taste.
Dinner includes a seasonal kaiseki course served in private or semi-private dining rooms. You’ll enjoy a sequence of dishes, each thoughtfully timed and arranged: fresh sashimi, local grilled fish, rich simmered courses, and a rice bowl with Hamana eel. Finish with a seasonal fruit dessert.
Breakfast includes local specialties, served in a relaxed, spacious dining setting.
Onsen and Wellness
The hot springs at Sansuikan Kinryu offer deep relaxation with a strong connection to the natural world. Step into the large cypress bathhouse and let the warm wood and gentle mineral water ease away tension. The fragrance of cypress fills the air while the bath’s naturally sourced water helps soothe muscle and joint pain, improve circulation, and calm the mind.
Outside, two open-air baths give you a direct view of Lake Hamana and Mt. Okusa. One bath features natural rock, while the other is crafted in the traditional Shigaraki style. The temperatures vary slightly between the two, allowing you to find the perfect soak.
For more privacy, book one of the rooftop family baths. “Tsuki no Yu” and “Hi no Yu” offer a quiet setting where you can enjoy the view with someone special. One bath is fully accessible. Although these rooftop baths don’t use hot spring water, they provide a calming, memorable experience.

If you have tattoos, check with the front desk before using the shared baths. You may be able to use a private family bath instead.
