Overview
THE HIRAMATSU KARUIZAWA MIYOTA gives you a refined forest retreat at the foot of Mt. Asama, with just 37 rooms and villas across grounds of more than 60,000㎡. This is a gourmet auberge where food, nature, hot spring bathing, art, and quiet time all shape the stay. The hotel’s idea of “One Stay, One Full Course” runs through the whole experience, from French and Italian dining to time by the fire at the Takibi Lounge.
The property also received Two MICHELIN Keys in the MICHELIN Guide Hotel Selection 2025, adding to its appeal if you want a special countryside stay with strong design, deep privacy, and memorable cuisine.
Accommodation
You can choose from rooms and suites in the five-storey main building or one of nine detached villas. Every room measures at least 100㎡ including the terrace, and every room has a south-facing terrace and its own semi-open-air hot spring bath. This makes your stay feel private from the start, with space to bathe, rest, read, enjoy coffee, and take in the forest air at your own pace.
The main building includes Deluxe Twin rooms, Junior Suites, Miyota Suites, and The Hiramatsu Suite. Deluxe Twin rooms already feel generous, with natural materials, art, a sofa by the window, and a terrace that works like an outdoor living room. Junior Suites sit at the corners of the main building, with wide windows, an L-shaped terrace, and a layout that gives you more privacy between the entrance and living area.
Miyota Suites face both north and south, giving you views toward the Mt. Asama foothills, Miyota, Sakudaira, and the Yatsugatake Mountains. The Hiramatsu Suite occupies half of the top floor and gives you the hotel’s strongest view, with two bedrooms separated by a living and dining room, plus a terrace connected to the living room, bedrooms, and hot spring bath.
For a more private villa stay, Villa Suites include a living room, mini kitchen, two bedrooms, terrace, private garden, and semi-open-air hot spring bath. Terrace Villa Suites add an especially large terrace of around 90㎡, giving you space for a Morning Basket breakfast, seasonal outdoor dining, or summer barbecue. Dog Villa Suites include a dog run, dog bed, and pet-friendly items, so you can bring your dog and still enjoy the comfort of a villa stay.
In-room touches include original coffee beans, a coffee mill or Nespresso machine depending on room type, Waphyto bath items and skincare, Imabari towels, bathrobes, pyjamas, loungewear, a Bluetooth speaker, yoga mat, minibar drinks, Wi-Fi, and streaming access with your own account. A handmade welcome sweet from the pâtissier is prepared in every room.
Dining
Dining is one of the main reasons to stay here. You can enjoy French cuisine at Le Grand Lys on the first floor, surrounded by trees, or Italian cuisine at La Lumière Claire on the fifth floor, where you look out over Miyota. The kitchens focus on Shinshu ingredients, including seasonal vegetables, fruit, and game from Nagano and nearby areas.
Breakfast centers on fresh seasonal vegetables, served with soup, salad, freshly baked bread, and pâtissier-made jam. You can dine in one of the restaurants, or choose a Morning Basket delivered to your room, then enjoy it on your terrace, in your room, or outdoors during a quiet walk.
If you stay in a villa, you can enjoy Villa Exclusive Services, with dining prepared using ingredients selected by the chef. Depending on the season and plan, you can enjoy experiences such as Forest Dining, Private Dining, a winter hot-pot menu, or outdoor barbecue on the terrace. In-room dining is also available, including Italian cuisine from La Lumière Claire, lunchtime service, and late-night options such as soba noodles and o-chazuke.
Onsen and Wellness
Your hot spring experience takes place in your own room. Every room has a semi-open-air hot spring bath, so you can soak at any time without sharing the space. Open the window toward the terrace, breathe in the highland air, and enjoy a private bath surrounded by the feeling of the forest.
The hot spring water comes daily from Oshio Onsen, a historic spring linked to Takeda Shingen. The water has a soft feel on the skin, and the bath stays ready at a comfortable temperature. The baths are not free-flowing; the water uses a circulation system, and the spring is heated because the source is naturally lukewarm. There is no large public bath, so your room becomes your personal onsen space.
Bathrooms in the main building feature stone walls, direct access to the terrace, and a practical layout with the shower close to the bath. Villa bathrooms look directly toward the forest, with wood-lined interiors and a shower booth behind the bathtub. After your bath, you can step out in a bathrobe and relax on the terrace.
For deeper relaxation, the Wellness Salon offers Myofascial Release Cutter therapy, hydrogen inhalation therapy, and manual treatments using Waphyto oils. The salon opens from 10:00 to 18:00, with final entry at 17:00, and closes on Wednesdays.
Guests with Tattoos
Tattoos are not an issue, as bathing takes place in private rooms only. You enjoy complete freedom and privacy during your stay.
