Overview

Stay in the centre of Kusatsu Onsen at Yuyado Miyuki Honkan, a casual hot spring inn on the main street between Yubatake and Sainokawara Park. Yubatake is around 250 metres away, while the entrance to Sainokawara Park is around 60 metres away, placing shops, cafés, restaurants, footbaths, and Kusatsu’s best-known sights within easy walking distance.

The flexible room-only style gives you the freedom to explore the town and choose where you eat dinner. A complimentary light breakfast is also available in the morning, giving you an easy start before another walk around Kusatsu.

Bathing is the main highlight. You can experience five private baths supplied by three different sources: Miyuki’s own spring, the Sainokawara source, and the Bandai source. Separate indoor baths for men and women bring the total number of bathing spaces to seven.

Selected rooms were renewed in April 2024, adding spacious Japanese-inspired twin rooms with Simmons beds. Yuyado Miyuki Honkan does not accept children, including infants sharing a bed, helping maintain an adult-focused atmosphere.

Accommodation

Choose from spacious twin rooms with beds or traditional Japanese rooms with futon bedding. The current room categories are non-smoking, and several twin rooms feature Japanese design details alongside Western-style beds.

The fourth-floor Luxury Twin was renewed in April 2024 and offers 50 square metres of space. Two Simmons semi-double beds provide comfortable sleeping arrangements, while futons can be added when you need additional bedding. The generous floor area gives you room to settle in after walking around the hot spring town.

The Japanese-Modern Superior Twin was also renewed in April 2024. This 30-square-metre room sits on the fourth floor and includes two Simmons semi-double beds. Japanese textures and clean lines create a restful setting for two people.

On the third floor, the Japanese Superior Twin with Terrace offers 35 square metres of space, two Simmons semi-double beds, and a small outdoor terrace. The standard Japanese Superior Twin measures 30 square metres and includes two Simmons beds, a shower booth, Washlet toilet, refrigerator, and balcony.

For a more traditional stay, choose a Japanese room on the fifth floor. These rooms offer around ten to 12 tatami mats and use futon bedding rather than beds. Room equipment includes a shower booth, small ice maker, air purifier, television, refrigerator, coffee pod machine, hair dryer, and electric kettle.

Bathroom arrangements differ between room categories, with either a private bath or shower booth available in selected rooms. The room baths do not use the three natural hot spring sources found in the shared and private bathing areas.

Towels, yukata, toothbrushes, razors, brushes, and personal amenities are provided. Women can also choose a colourful yukata through selected plans or the rental service.

Dining

Yuyado Miyuki Honkan follows a room-only style and does not serve dinner. This gives you the freedom to explore the restaurants, izakaya, cafés, noodle shops, and food stalls around Yubatake and Sainokawara Street without returning for a fixed meal time.

A complimentary light breakfast is available in the third-floor Tsuyukusa dining area. You can request breakfast when you check in and enjoy simple morning items such as bread and coffee. The selection may change with the season.

Breakfast is served between 8:00 and 8:30. As this is a complimentary service, ingredients cannot be changed for allergies, dietary preferences, or cultural requirements.

Onsen and Wellness

Yuyado Miyuki Honkan has seven bathing spaces, including five private open-air or semi-open-air baths and separate indoor baths for men and women. The private baths use 100% free-flowing natural water from three Kusatsu sources.

Ichinoyu is an intimate semi-open-air bath suited to two people. It uses Miyuki’s private source and includes a shower area.

Ninoyu offers more space and combines water from the Sainokawara source with Miyuki’s own spring. Its stone bath accommodates a small group and includes washing facilities.

Sannoyu uses only Sainokawara spring water. This open-air-style bath is designed for two or three people and does not have a washing area, so you should wash before entering.

Gonoyu combines the Bandai source with Miyuki spring water. The bath offers enough space to stretch out in privacy, and its shower area closes during the winter period.

Rokunoyu is the largest private bath and uses Bandai spring water. It gives you plenty of space when you are staying with friends. Its shower area is also unavailable during winter.

You can reserve one complimentary 40-minute private bathing session after check-in. Reserved sessions operate from 15:00 to 21:00, and you need to complete the reservation by 18:00. From 21:40 to 23:00 and from 6:00 to 9:20, you can use any available private bath without a reservation. This open-use system also lets you try more than one source during your stay.

The separate indoor baths provide another way to experience Kusatsu’s strongly acidic water. The men’s bath blends Miyuki’s first private source with water from Sainokawara, creating an unusual combination within Kusatsu Onsen. The indoor baths remain available from check-in until 9:20 the following morning, apart from cleaning or maintenance periods.

Kusatsu’s water emerges at a high temperature, so enter slowly after pouring warm water over your body. Shampoo, conditioner, and body soap are available in the shared bathing areas.

Guests with Tattoos

You can use all five private hot spring baths if you have tattoos. These baths are reserved for private use, allowing you to enjoy Miyuki, Sainokawara, and Bandai spring water without sharing the space.

You cannot use the shared indoor baths for men and women if you have tattoos.

Facilities

The bright lobby welcomes you with seasonal flower displays, while the relaxation space gives you somewhere to sit after bathing. During winter, a pellet stove warms the room and adds the glow of a real flame. You can read, talk, or enjoy the small complimentary ice cream offered after your bath.

Tsuyukusa on the third floor provides the setting for the morning light breakfast. A separate dining space, Ashibi, sits on the second floor.

A table-tennis room lets you enjoy a classic hot spring pastime between 15:00 and 21:00. You can also browse concentrated Kusatsu hot spring products made with Miyuki spring water and take the bathing experience home with you.

Wi-Fi, vending machines, air purifiers in the rooms, and an elevator support an easy stay. However, the building is not fully barrier-free.

EV and PHEV charging is available with an advance reservation. Parking is limited and cannot be reserved, so some cars may need to use a nearby partner parking area within a short walk.

Activities

Walk to Yubatake in around three minutes and watch steaming water flow through its long wooden channels. The surrounding streets offer cafés, sweet shops, restaurants, souvenir stores, and evening views of the illuminated hot spring field.

Sainokawara Park is around one minute away. Follow its stone paths past steaming streams and naturally heated pools towards the large Sainokawara open-air bath.

Beside Yubatake, Netsunoyu presents Kusatsu’s traditional yumomi performance. This technique cools the hot spring water by moving it with large wooden paddles rather than adding cold water.

You can also relax at the Yubatake footbath, visit the nearby Kataoka Tsurutaro Museum of Art, or explore the public baths around the town. In the evening, put on your yukata and walk along the illuminated stone streets before returning for another private soak.

During winter, Kusatsu’s elevation brings snow and icy roads. You need winter tyres or suitable chains when arriving by car, and you should complete your journey before dark whenever possible.

Additional Features

Check-in runs from 15:00 to 17:30, and check-out is by 10:00. Yuyado Miyuki Honkan does not provide a station shuttle, but you can walk from the Kusatsu Onsen Bus Terminal in around ten minutes.

The inn does not accept children or infants, including those sharing existing bedding. All current room categories are non-smoking.

Limited on-site parking is available from 14:00 until 10:00 the following morning. You may need to leave your car key so vehicles can be moved within the compact parking area. Low-clearance cars, large vehicles, and vehicles using digital keys may need to use a nearby parking area.

Your stay includes access to five private free-flowing hot spring baths, the shared indoor baths, a complimentary light breakfast, Wi-Fi, towels, yukata, room amenities, and the relaxation lounge.
