Overview

Stay at Karuizawa Marriott Hotel in Nagakura, a quieter part of Karuizawa surrounded by highland greenery. The property sits at an elevation of around 950 metres, with Kyu-Karuizawa, the shopping outlets, museums, parks, churches, and mountain scenery within easy driving distance.

The accommodation is divided between the Main Wing, the North Wing, and two dog-friendly cottage buildings. You can choose a standard Western room, a Japanese-Western room, a large suite, a room with its own natural hot spring bath, or a cottage where you can stay with your dog.

After exploring Karuizawa, you can return for seasonal Shinshu dining, bathe in Kose Onsen, book a treatment at An Spa Karuizawa, or relax with a Nagano wine in the lounge. The resort works well when you want natural hot spring bathing alongside the space and services of an international hotel.

Accommodation

The Main Wing contains the restaurant, lounge, public hot spring baths, spa, fitness centre, and 76 rooms. Room choices include 32-square-metre Superior Rooms with twin or king beds, Pure Wellness Rooms, Japanese-Western Rooms, and two suite categories.

The Pure Wellness Rooms follow the same 32-square-metre twin or king layout as the Superior Rooms but add a specialised air-treatment system. The room undergoes detailed cleaning and treatment of the air-conditioning system, furniture, walls, floors, and fabrics. A high-performance air purifier then continues to filter small airborne particles during your stay.

Ten Japanese-Western Rooms opened in June 2026. Each room measures 33 square metres and combines two beds with Japanese design details. When three or four people stay together, futons are prepared in the room.

The 71-square-metre Junior Suite gives you an open layout with Japanese and Western elements. The 78-square-metre Executive Suite adds a larger living area and tatami space. Both suite types accommodate up to five people.

The separate North Wing contains 56 Premium Rooms, all measuring 39 square metres. These rooms combine twin or king beds with a tatami sitting area. When three or four people stay together, futons are added to the Japanese area.

First-floor North Wing rooms have a private garden and an open-air bath supplied with natural Shiozawa Onsen water. Second-floor rooms have an indoor hot spring view bath with windows facing the surrounding greenery. Shiozawa Onsen is known for retaining heat well after bathing.

The North Wing stands apart from the Main Wing. You need to walk outside when visiting the restaurant, lounge, public baths, spa, or fitness centre, so warm clothing and suitable shoes are useful during rain or winter snow.

Ten dog-friendly rooms occupy two cottage buildings. The room selection ranges from a 25-square-metre Cottage Twin to a 46-square-metre Comfort Cottage Twin. Six cottages include a private natural hot spring bath, while four Cottage Twin rooms do not.

The smaller Cottage King accepts one small dog. The larger Deluxe and Comfort Cottages can accommodate more dogs within the size and number limits of the selected room. Dog equipment includes bowls, pet sheets, waste bags, cleaning items, paw towels, and a waste bin.

All accommodation is non-smoking. Wi-Fi, a television, refrigerator, tea-making equipment, towels, sleepwear, and standard bathroom items are available, although the exact equipment differs by room category.

Dining

Begin your morning at Grill & Dining G with a breakfast buffet served from 7:00 a.m. The selection combines Japanese and Western food, allowing you to prepare a light breakfast or a larger meal before sightseeing.

Breakfast highlights include freshly squeezed juice and French toast made with bread from Karuizawa bakery Boulangerie Asanoya. You can also try Shinshu beef and Nozawana curry, Shinshu soba, grilled fish, rice, porridge, rolled egg, and miso soup made with Shinshu miso.

A pickle counter introduces you to preserved vegetables and side dishes from Nagano. One local-style choice combines rice with fresh wasabi from Azumino. Coffee is available to take away when you prefer to leave early.

At dinner, you can enjoy seasonal courses built around produce from local farms, grilled meat, fish, and ingredients from across Nagano. The cooking combines Japanese produce with French and grill techniques rather than following a traditional kaiseki format.

Menus change through the year. Seasonal courses may include Shinshu salmon, sweetfish, highland vegetables, locally grown fruit, Shinshu Premium Beef, and Shinshu Golden Shamo chicken.

Nagano wine forms an important part of the dining experience. You can choose labels from vineyards across the prefecture or ask for a pairing that suits your meat, fish, and vegetable courses.

Grill & Dining G serves dinner from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., with the final order at 8:30 p.m. The restaurant is not currently open for lunch.

The Lobby Lounge opens from late morning until evening. You can stop for coffee, dessert, a light meal, local drinks, or a glass of Nagano wine. In-room dining is also available for selected menu items and hours.

Onsen and Wellness

The Main Wing has gender-separated indoor and outdoor public baths supplied with natural Kose Onsen water. The bathing area sits on the basement floor and opens from 5:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. and from 3:00 p.m. until midnight.

Kose Onsen is an alkaline simple spring. Its traditional bathing indications include fatigue, sensitivity to cold, muscle and joint discomfort, stiff shoulders, bruises, digestive concerns, and recovery after illness.

You can move between the spacious indoor pool and the outdoor bath, where the cooler Karuizawa air provides a contrast to the hot water. The public facility does not include a reservable private bath.

A second source, Shiozawa Onsen, supplies the private baths in the North Wing. This sodium chloride and bicarbonate spring retains warmth well, making it particularly enjoyable after winter sightseeing or time outdoors.

Every North Wing room includes either a private open-air bath or a private hot spring view bath. Selected dog-friendly cottages also have private hot spring baths, although the four standard Cottage Twin rooms do not.

An Spa Karuizawa provides facial and body treatments using Japanese botanical ingredients and skincare products. Body treatments can focus on stiffness, swelling, tiredness, cold sensitivity, or recovery after outdoor activity. The spa accepts you from the age of 18 and normally closes on Tuesdays.

The 24-hour fitness centre includes treadmills, an elliptical machine, an exercise bicycle, free weights, an adjustable bench, and a gym ball. Towels and water are provided inside the fitness room.

Guests with Tattoos

You cannot enter the shared indoor bath or outdoor bath with visible tattoos.

You may use the public baths when every tattoo can be covered completely with no more than two hotel-approved cover stickers. Each sticker measures 8 by 10 centimetres.

When your tattoos are too large for the two-sticker rule, choose a North Wing room with a private Shiozawa Onsen bath. You can use your in-room bath without entering the communal bathing area.

Selected dog-friendly cottages also include private natural hot spring baths. Check the exact cottage category carefully, as the standard Cottage Twin does not have an onsen.

Facilities

The Lobby Lounge gives you an open space for drinks, light meals, and time between sightseeing and dinner. Its position beside Grill & Dining G makes it easy to move from an afternoon drink to your evening meal.

Cozy Works Karuizawa is a dedicated work lounge in the Main Wing. Counter seats, sofa seating, Wi-Fi, and power outlets give you a practical setting for remote work. The lounge normally opens from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.

The fitness centre remains open 24 hours, while An Spa Karuizawa offers bookable treatments on the basement floor. The public hot spring baths are located nearby.

A private dining room can accommodate family meals, celebrations, and small group dinners. A separate meeting room supports business events and organised gatherings.

Elevators are available in the Main and North Wings. The dog-friendly cottages do not have elevators, so you need to use stairs when assigned accommodation above ground level.

There is no coin laundry. A paid laundry service is available through reception.

Complimentary parking is available on the hotel grounds. Wi-Fi is provided in the rooms and main shared spaces. All rooms and dining areas are non-smoking, with smoking limited to the designated space on the Main Wing lobby floor.

Activities

Walk to Karuizawa Commongrounds in around 20 minutes for cafés, shops, books, workspaces, and seasonal events. Yukawa Furusato Park and the Karuizawa Senju Hiroshi Museum can each be reached in around 30 minutes on foot.

The Karuizawa Senju Hiroshi Museum combines large waterfall paintings with a building designed to bring natural light and garden views into the galleries. It is around five minutes away by car.

Kyu-Karuizawa Ginza is around 15 minutes away by car. You can browse shops, cafés, bakeries, sweets, and historic buildings along one of the town’s best-known streets.

Harunire Terrace and the Hoshino area give you riverside paths, restaurants, shops, churches, and access to the forest around Picchio. Guided nature walks and wildlife programs operate according to the season.

Shiraito Falls makes an easy nature outing. Water flows across a curved rock face surrounded by forest, with fresh greenery in summer and frozen scenery during the coldest part of winter.

Karuizawa Prince Shopping Plaza sits beside Karuizawa Station and brings together fashion, sports, homeware, restaurants, and open lawns. You can combine shopping with your arrival or departure day.

Golf courses operate around Karuizawa during the warmer months. Winter brings skiing, snow play, and snowshoeing at resorts around Karuizawa and the base of Mount Asama.

Autumn colours normally reach their strongest period between the middle of October and early November. Winter roads can become icy, so snow tyres or chains are essential when you arrive by car between November and the end of March.

Additional Features

Karuizawa Station is around 15 minutes away by taxi. Nakakaruizawa Station is approximately five minutes away by taxi.

The journey from Tokyo to Karuizawa takes around 70 minutes on the Hokuriku Shinkansen. This makes the hotel suitable for a short highland break as well as a longer stay.

By car, the hotel is around 20 minutes from Usui-Karuizawa Interchange and approximately 30 minutes from Komoro Interchange under normal road conditions.
