Overview

Stay at Angel Grandia Echigo Nakazato Onsen, a family-focused mountain resort in Echigo-Yuzawa, Niigata. The slopes of Nakazato Snow Wood lie directly in front of the hotel, while Yuzawa Nakazato Ski Resort and other snow areas are also easy to reach during winter.

The resort is designed to make travel with babies and young children simpler. Family rooms include useful baby equipment, the restaurants provide children’s dishes and baby food, and the public baths have bathing chairs, baby soap, and changing beds. A playroom, heated indoor pool, seasonal events, snow activities, and an on-site convenience store give you plenty of options without leaving the property.

You can reach Echigo-Yuzawa Station from Tokyo Station in around 80 minutes by Joetsu Shinkansen. A complimentary shuttle then takes you from the station area to the hotel in approximately 15 to 20 minutes.

Accommodation

Choose from family concept rooms, high-floor Superior Rooms, Childcare Support Rooms, and standard Japanese or Western accommodation. Every room is non-smoking and includes a private bathroom, washlet toilet, free Wi-Fi, and an air purifier with a humidifying function.

The 37-square-metre Yurikago Petit Suite was designed with input from the hotel’s parenting team and has been recognised by the Miki House Childcare Research Institute. The room sits on a high floor facing the mountains and uses natural materials, resin tatami that resists allergens, low beds, and soft flooring that helps reduce the impact of falls.

A wide entrance gives you space for a stroller, while the bathroom has a softer floor that feels more comfortable beneath small feet. The room also includes a microwave, bottle steriliser, formula kettle, baby bath, baby soap, potty seat, step, temperature gauges, child-sized hangers, and a diaper bin. Unlimited diapers and towels are available with designated accommodation plans.

The 72-square-metre Granmory gives you more room to play and rest together. A ceiling feature creates the appearance of a star-filled sky when the lights go out, while a treehouse-style bunk bed and wall photo area make the room part of the holiday experience. The layout also includes safety features and baby equipment suited to younger children.

Superior Rooms occupy upper floors facing the mountain and ski slopes. The 72-square-metre Japanese-Western Superior Room combines beds with a Japanese sitting and sleeping area, while the 37-square-metre Superior Twin provides a simpler bed-based layout. Both categories include a ReFa Beauty Care Set.

Three Childcare Support Room styles give you larger layouts and baby equipment. The Japanese-Western Twin Rooms measure approximately 72 to 94 square metres, while the Japanese-Western Double Room provides around 72 square metres. The Large Japanese Room covers approximately 72 to 94 square metres and includes separate areas where you can sit, play, and prepare futons.

Standard rooms measure approximately 37 square metres. You can choose a traditional Japanese room with futons, a Japanese room with low beds on the tatami, or a Western Twin Room. These rooms include a private bath, climate control, a refrigerator, television, electric kettle, and humidifying air purifier.

Futons use washable ERGO-STAR bedding. The filling is designed to resist shifting and dust while following the shape of your body more closely. In Japanese room categories, you prepare the futons yourself when you are ready to sleep.

Useful child equipment is also available outside the dedicated family rooms. You can request a bath chair, Bumbo seat, bottle-cleaning set, waterproof bed sheet, or baby body soap. Cots are available for an additional charge and depend on availability.

Dining

Restaurant Naebasan serves breakfast and dinner buffets centred on Japanese food, Niigata produce, and dishes prepared in the live kitchen. The buffet changes throughout the year, allowing you to taste ingredients that suit the current season.

At dinner, chefs prepare selected dishes in front of you so you can enjoy them while they are still hot. Seasonal menus may include grilled seafood, locally raised pork or chicken, Niigata vegetables, noodles, rice dishes, soups, salads, and desserts prepared by the pastry team.

Niigata-grown rice forms an important part of the meal. Some seasonal buffets feature Koshihikari rice from Yuzawa, cooked with water from the Uono River system and served as freshly prepared rice balls with regional salt and fillings.

Winter menus may include scallops and warming dishes, while summer dining can take on a BBQ theme with grilled seafood, meat, vegetables, curries, and casual outdoor-inspired flavours. Menus change according to ingredient supply.

A dedicated children’s buffet provides familiar choices such as hamburg steak, fries, curry, steamed vegetables, egg dishes, sausages, fruit, and muffins. Baby food for children aged five months and older is available at both breakfast and dinner.

You also have access to highchairs, paper bibs, food-cutting scissors, children’s spoons and forks, liquid infant formula, disposable spoons, and a microwave for heating baby food.

Breakfast combines Japanese and Western dishes, with rice, soup, vegetables, egg dishes, bread, fruit, and drinks. A pancake machine allows you to prepare fresh pancakes and add syrup, cream, fruit, or granola.

For a quieter meal, Nakazato serves creative Japanese kaiseki dishes prepared by the head chef. Restaurant Katakuri opens for dinner on selected dates and offers casual choices such as Niigata beef and Tsumari pork hamburg steak, tempura soba, seafood rice bowls, and children’s plates.

Buffet dishes display the eight major allergens. The same kitchens, utensils, fryers, and preparation areas handle other ingredients, so complete separation cannot be guaranteed. Low-allergen adjustments are limited and require advance arrangements.

Onsen and Wellness

Angel Grandia has two hot spring areas: Hotaru-no-Yu in the Main Building and Akizakura-no-Yu in the Annex. Depending on the date and season, only one bathing area may be open, so operating hours follow the current bath calendar.

The water comes from Nakazato Onsen. It is a simple, weakly alkaline, hypotonic low-temperature spring with a gentle bathing feel. The water is heated, diluted when needed, and managed with circulation and filtration.

Traditional bathing indications include fatigue, sensitivity to cold, neuralgia, muscle and joint discomfort, stiff shoulders, bruises, sprains, long-term digestive concerns, and recovery after illness.

Hotaru-no-Yu remains open throughout the year and includes separate indoor baths for men and women, a garden open-air bath, jacuzzi, sauna, and cold-water bath. Soft lighting around the outdoor area creates a comfortable setting for an evening soak.

Akizakura-no-Yu opens seasonally, with daily operation usually planned for Golden Week, the summer holiday period, and ski season. The bathing area includes indoor and open-air baths, a jacuzzi, sauna, and relaxation spaces.

The Akizakura-no-Yu sauna has a self-löyly system, allowing you to pour water onto the heated stones to create steam. Source-flowing ceramic pot baths sit in the outdoor area and give you a more personal bathing space, although they remain part of the communal facility.

Both hot spring areas provide baby bathing chairs, baby soap, and changing beds. The mild spring water also makes the baths easier to enjoy when you travel with younger children.

The women’s bathing areas provide ReFa hair dryers, cleansing products, toner, moisturiser, hair ties, and a shampoo selection. Bath schedules and cleaning closures change by date, so you should check the current calendar during your stay.

Guests with Tattoos

Visible tattoos are not permitted in the shared hot spring baths or swimming pool.

You can use these facilities when every tattoo is completely covered with no more than two hotel-approved cover stickers. Each sticker measures 65 by 97 millimetres and is available from the on-site shop. The stickers must remain in place throughout your time in the bath or pool.

There is no reservable private hot spring bath, so you cannot use the natural onsen when your tattoos are too large to meet the cover-sticker rule.

Facilities

The 20-metre indoor heated pool opens throughout the year, apart from scheduled maintenance dates. You need to wear a swimming cap, which you can borrow without charge. Swimwear is available to rent, and swimming diapers are sold for younger children. Children of elementary-school age and younger must enter with someone aged 13 or above.

A children’s garden pool opens during the summer season. Its shallower water makes it easier to enjoy pool time with younger children.

The sports gym includes running machines, exercise bicycles, and relaxation equipment. Access to the gym and pool is combined, and you can borrow gym clothing and indoor shoes. You must be at least junior-high-school age to use the gym.

The free Kids’ Corner provides picture books, illustrated reference books, and play equipment. A nursing room, changing table, and water dispenser sit nearby, giving you a comfortable place to feed or change your child during the day.

Three private karaoke rooms provide entertainment after dinner or during poor weather. Food and drinks can be brought into the rooms, and all karaoke spaces are non-smoking.

The on-site FamilyMart sells drinks, snacks, travel items, Niigata food, local sake, souvenirs, diapers, wipes, baby food, cooling sheets, and other child-care products. An ATM is also available inside the store.

A 24-hour laundry area includes washing machines, dryers, shoe dryers, and detergent. This is especially useful after skiing, swimming, or several days of outdoor activities.

Massage and relaxation services can help you unwind after sport or travel. Seasonal hand-held firework areas, lounges, event spaces, and meeting rooms are also available according to the hotel schedule.

Activities

In winter, walk from the hotel to Nakazato Snow Wood for skiing, snowboarding, and snow play. Equipment rental is available through the partner shop, and winter lockers let you store skis and snowboards without taking them back to your room.

Yuki Yuki Land opens on the snow directly in front of the hotel. You can try snow tubing, sledging, and play in areas designed for younger children. Ski lessons include beginner programs and a more personal Piyokko Kids Lesson reserved for stays at the hotel.

Transfers to selected nearby ski areas may also operate during winter. All slope services, lessons, events, and transfers depend on snowfall and the seasonal schedule.

Outside ski season, family events continue inside and around the hotel. Spring programs may include festival games, puzzles, crafts, and grass tubing. Summer brings water play, outdoor experiences, and special evening events, while autumn often introduces Halloween decorations and activities.

The indoor pool, playroom, gym, karaoke, hot spring baths, and seasonal workshops give you alternatives when rain or snow changes your plans.

Additional Features

Check-in begins at 3:00 p.m., and check-out is by 10:00 a.m. Selected packages may include different arrival or departure times.

A complimentary shuttle runs between Angel Grandia and its information centre near the west exit of Echigo-Yuzawa Station. The journey normally takes 15 to 20 minutes. The timetable changes by season, and advance reservations are not usually required.

Free outdoor parking is available for approximately 336 vehicles. From Yuzawa Interchange, the hotel is around ten minutes away by car under normal conditions.
